Scottish atheist solves crimes, has steamy romance, on Mystery!

I can't believe I'm asking this, but here we are. Sometime between 1990 and 1998 I saw a miniseries on Mystery! or Masterpiece Theater or just PBS and all I remember is that it was about a Scottish atheist who was a detective, or a PI, or something mystery-related? And he points out that men wearing just socks are silly, but women wearing just socks are sexy? Setting was contemporary. It was in reruns when I saw it. What the heck did I see and can I watch it again?

Tell me when to quit.

For (drama or crime) television shows that you have watched the entire way through to the end of the series, please tell me which shows are worth watching through to the series end and, for those that aren't, where I should quit watching them. [more inside]

Where are Series 1 & 2 of Endeavour?

I have a recurring recording for Masterpiece Mystery on my DVR, and a few weeks ago I was suddenly seeing Endeavour in the queue. This is great because I found I like it a great deal. However, it is series 3, and I never saw the first two series. I went to my AppleTV to see if I could find the first two series there but I didn't see them. So, how can I (legally) view the first two series? [more inside]

Entertain Me!

I know everybody asks this (and I've read through the previous questions looking for recommendations), but what should I watch next? Preferably on Netflix or Hulu Plus (not web only). In general, I tend to like: mysteries/crime procedurals/law dramas, especially with a quirky twist, and also shows involving a quirky band of misfits (or individual) working outside the law to bring justice to the little people while finding out who done them wrong (e.g. the A-Team, Burn Notice, The Pretender, etc.) I also like heist shows and sci-fi. And occasionally anime. [more inside]

What TV show was this?

A boy buys an earring at an old junk shop, either he can't afford both or the guy sells it to him for a great price because there's no pair for it. Once he start wearing it though, trash becomes attracted to him. He ends up taking refuge (I think) in a phone booth and the trash falls away when he takes out the earring. My question, what show was this? [more inside]
