I recall seeing a music video with a computer animated smiling man running at a constant pace to the music. That was it. He encounters other people along the way, but he keeps on running, smiling. It would have been made no later than the summer of 2002. What was it?

I am looking for music videos where the band is missing or does not appear in proper form. What are some examples of videos in which the band does not appear either deliberately or in a form other than is standard such as lego figures in "Fell in Love With a Girl" in the White Stripes video? I am not too worried about your interpretation of what this constitutes so feel free to stretch the concept a bit if you have something you feel is relevant. Thanks!

Help identify a music video I recently saw on MTV Europe...70s style video with a female lead singer and a banjo? I recently saw a music video on MTV Europe, but didn't get a chance to catch the artist name or song title. It was shot in a style that made it look like a 70s TV show (think American Bandstand). The lead singer was a female, with bangs, and the song featured a banjo throughout. Any ideas?

Name That Show Used In That Russian Music Video-Filter: I was at a Russian restaurant in L.A yesterday and saw the strangest music video. I got the name of the artist (Something and Federov?) but the video was chopped up clips from what looked like a British TV show. What TV show or movie was being cut up? Details inside. The video contained a man in a broad-stripped Zoot Suit and a man dressed as a Lady Bracknell /Pepperpot type (Think Monty Python) and what seemed to be WW1-era soldiers and generals. There was lots of broad comedy and falling down drunk and the sets where very white and minimal. There was a lot of green smoke. From the video quality I'd say late 70s-early 80s? What the hell did I just watch?

Monkees (tv show) Filter: I'm trying to remember which song was played in a music video/interlude in an episode of their tv show and, ultimately, track down a clip of it. As a kid in the 1980s, the Monkees were my favorite group, and I watched repeats of their eponymous show every day. Now, I'll admit that I was only a few years old, so my memory may be very flawed (so feel free to correct me if I'm wrong about anything). I remember that many (or maybe all?) episodes included a song that was kind of like a mini-music video. Well, I saw one that blew my seven or eight year-old mind. I recall this music video didn't have them running around like sped-up maniacs. They were performing the song in a dark room (I'm assuming the entire thing took place in this room, but I could be wrong), and one was playing a organ-type keyboard that had big circles in the front that lit up. It was very mod looking (once again, if I recall correctly).

Now, as to the song.. I have thought for years that it was 'Valleri,' and I've fruitlessly searched for this video on YouTube. There actually is a video of 'Valleri' that looks like it could be from the show on YT, and it's nothing at all like this brilliant video that has haunted me. So, I'm guessing it wasn't 'Valleri'. There's one other aspect that I THINK I remember. I feel like the room was dark and they were wearing all white (or white shirts) and then there was the lit-up keyboard. I mean, it was very minimalistic. I have a picture from a Monkees greatest hits cd that kind of reminded me of how I've been envisaging the video.

Anyway, does this ring a bell with any Monkee fans?

I was watching the Chumbawumba "Tubthumping" video, and while it's obvious that most of the women in the bathroom scenes are men in drag, I wasn't so sure about one: am I right in saying that the woman we see mouthing to "pissing the night away", "oh, Danny boy, Danny boy", and "don't cry for me, next door neighbor" is the lead singer in drag?

VideoFilter: Remember the music video, but not the song. There was a video about 15-ish years ago that had a girl climbing over bins of records to get to a TV. I think the TV was probably showing video of the band. This was probably on MTV (although have they showed videos in the past 20 years).

Posting for someone else: I'm looking for the music video to a French dance track that might've been released sometime last year. There were no lyrics and there's an accordion sampled throughout. The video apparently consists of people throughout the world dancing to this on headphones and at some point there's a man in a pink bunny suit. Has anyone heard of this?

I have gone through my emails but can not find it. I thought it was called "beast" but am probably wrong since I can not locate it. Hint: It was very dark and disturbing.

Need help remembering a music video a bit like the ThruYOU one. must have been late 90s or just around the Millenium: I saw a music video where you could see a jazz band (I think in front of a velvet curtain - or something similar). now the music style was kind of acid jazz electronic music and made up of jazz samples. and whenever the sample was heard one could see corresponding musician play that sample - over and over again...

i really liked this - but I've never seen the video again. and I remembered it when I saw the ThruYOU video recently. it's quite similar, although the musicians in the thru-you video are not "in the same band".

anybody? this has been a burning quest for me for such a long time. thanks in advance and I apologize for my clumsy English.

Looking for a song/video because it would make my fiancee very, very happy. There was a video we found on the internets a while back that we've misplaced. It's animated in monotone and the little characters look like flames or other abstract shapes in a city or factory type setting. At some point they all turn to color. The lyrics have the word "girls" in it and maybe "boys" and definitely "summer".

The new Frito Lay commercial w/ the little flame reminded us of it.

Help me find this German (?) music video! In Hungary, in April 2007, I saw a music video which I need your help identifying. The song may have been in German, or Hungarian. It was on an MTV-type channel that showed the popular songs of the day (I remember they played international hits such as Tokio Hotel, Mika, Nelly Furtado, and Paolo Nutini).

The music video showed a waifish girl singing and climbing in and out of large square holes that led to different locations; for example, a hole in the wall of a bedroom set might lead to her being on a beach. (The warp hole portals and the dingy bedroom setting of part of the video are the only things I remember specifically. Some things I'm less certain of: I think the tempo of the song was rather slow and somber. The colors of the video may have tended towards greys and blues.)

I would love to find this song! I've tried googling for German and Hungarian top 40 lists, but I don't speak either language (which was why I sat around watching so many music videos when I was there ;) ). Sorry for the lack of specificity!

Help me find this music video from the mid- to late-nineties. Possible data points: I believe I only saw it once, on MTV's 120 Minutes. There were Muppet-style puppets in bright colors but with a slightly out-of-date film stock, as though the video was a Sesame Street spoof. The song lyrics included the word "Lollipop". I think one scene involved refrigerator-magnet plastic letters forming a word. I believe the band was British. That's all I got, man. Half of this may be hallucinated, for I know. Can you help?

Do any of you D.A.R.E. graduates remember the "music video" produced by (I think) a D.A.R.E. officers' band, which wrote and performed this awful song (the first one listed there)? I saw it about 16 years ago. Where can I find it online? The video was really, incredibly bad and hilarious--though of course when I was eight I found it DEEPLY MOVING. I'm looking for it on YouTube or the like as evidence--any idea where I might find it?

Okay, just spent a week in Avignon, and now either my memory sucks or my Googling does. Or both. Anyway, twice late at night on one of the local French TV stations (no satellite cable, so not MTV) I saw a wonderfully ridiculous music video. Now I can't find it anywhere. Here's all I remember: pretty much total Eurocheese dance tune. Chorus sung by white guy in a suit belting out what I think was the phrase "AND I LIKE IT!" while the nakedly sampled riff from "Smoke on the Water" played. Then they replayed the riff for a while while various hot chicks played air guitar as the camera zoomed in and out. Please help me find this gloriously stupid song so I can quickly become tired of it. Link to a video would be great.

[FilmmakingFilter] Can someone tell me how this music video was made? I understand that CGI was used extensively (at certain points, in fact, it's entirely CGI), but what I'm interested in is the fast-travelling-over-terrain effect. I'm pretty sure it's the same effect Dennis Muren and co. used for the speeder bike chases in Return of the Jedi, which was just walking through the terrain with a steadycam, shooting at 4fps or something similarly slow.

The question is, though: why aren't the clouds moving? Are they composited in afterwards?

I'd love to use this technique myself and am fiending for an explanation. Thank you.

Looking for an animated French music video and song from a few years back

What is the name of that French song from maybe five years back which had an animated music video of a little girl running through the pastures and playing? After a certain time, she stops playing, and she exits what turns out to be a big stage. A line of children are waiting their turn to enter the stage and play. I am pretty sure there was a link to it on Metafilter too back then. It seemed to paint a gloomy picture of the future.

Where can I find high-quality, downloadable music videos for free? I have a low-key DJ night once a week at a small bar, and I want to do a theme night, where we project music videos onto a small screen. I've put together a long list of videos I want to play, and now comes the task of locating them.

I've found .mov files of a few of them, and I've used Firefox extensions to download .flv files from Youtube, but they're generally of a pretty low resolution. Is there a site somewhere where I can find downloadable, high-res music video?

I've this near-OCD compulsion to want to put a name to people that catch my eye. In the music video for New Order's "Crystal," who is the lead singer for the fictional Killers band? I can't seem to find any information online aside "...and that's where the real band The Killers came from! Hur hur." Help me figure out this Japanese music video! I can't remember any of the lyrics (or speak Japanese), except that part of the refrain goes "ah me mah" or something like that. Most of the video features this schoolgirl who can dance really well. The song uses sirens. I wouldn't use Ask Metafilter for such frivolous questions usually, but there's a dollar (1!!!) bet riding on whether this video actually exists.

BoomBox Behind The Music?

Can you identify this music video about a boombox's rise to and fall from fame? I saw a music video on MTV's 120 Minutes and I can't remember the name of the band or the song. I probably saw it sometime between 1999-2002.

The video started with a band performing onstage along with a boombox. The crowd liked the boombox more than the band, and the boombox became famous. Eventually the boombox started partying too much, which I think culminated with the boombox falling into a hottub and eletrocuting itself. The boombox recovered and started a comeback tour. At the boombox's first show of the comeback tour, somehow the fire alarm went off, and as all of the people tried to run out they stopped and started dancing to the fire alarm.

The video was not animated or CG, it was an actual boombox in all of the scenes. I don't remember the style of music at all, but I think it possibly was a dance song because I don't remember there being any lyrics.
