I currently use approximately four+ computers with all major OS'es (Mac, Windows, Linux-Ubuntu) between work and home. Plus an Ipod Classic for portable music listening. Problem is keeping my music library up to date on all machines, or synced together. If I create a playlist, or change ratings, genre, etc. the results also aren't propagated to the other machines. On Windows and Mac I've been using Itunes but I'm not necessarily tied to it, but it does work on 2 of the 3 OS'es. Any suggestions? There are some previous similar questions, but all look several years old.

I need to replace iTunes. I have a very large (600 GB of only music) library and iTunes can't handle it anymore. All I want is something that will show me all of my music sortable by artist, album, or title. I sort all the music myself and don't want a program to do that for me. Playlists would be nice but are optional. That's literally all I need. (I'm on a Mac running OS 10.5.) Thanks MeFi!

I have multiple Ubuntu PCs in multiple rooms, each connected to individual HiFis. I want to be able to listen to my 150GB music collection from any of the PCs. BUT, I want to have a unified record of playcount, so, from each PC, I can access a "Not Recently Played" smart playlist that has been updated from all PCs. I'd also like to sync this Not Recenlty Played playlist with my Android phone. How can I do this? [more inside]

Why does iTunes hate me? Not me specifically, but my iMac G4? Twice in the past month, I have had to wait as my entire iTunes library loads, as if it is loading for the very first time. iMac G4, 1GHz, 1.5Ghz SDRAM, OS 10.5.8. iTunes 9.1.1 just installed. 235Gb music files on 750Gb USB external drive. The "loading iTunes library" becomes a two to three day affair. [more inside]

My music collection is practically non-existent. I have a new iPod, a laptop and 2GB per month downloads. What is the best and cheapest way to start building a music library from scratch? Should I just buy everything from iTunes, or what? And does anyone still pay for music?! [more inside]
I am hoping to find an equivalent to LibraryThing, but for my music. That is to say, I don't need to share the actual music, just the catalog/metadata of what I have. [more inside]

Winamp playlist help. I have a bunch of playlists in Winamp, but frequent re-organization of my music directory has broken all the links. Is there a way for Winamp to find the new locations of the files so I don't have to re-assign hundreds of songs, or, barring that, is there a smarter music library program that will do the work and can import Winamp playlists?
