Barney's "Castle So High" chords/tune - what are they reminding me of?

The chorus of Barney's Castle So High, starting around 19 seconds into that video, is giving me a massive dose of "I've heard that tune before!", but I can't put my finger on where. Any ideas? A musical, maybe?

Help me find the best love quotes from Broadway musicals

My partner is a huge, huge theater buff, particularly musicals, and he is going away to work for the next three months directing shows at a performing arts camp. Last summer, before he left, he hid little love notes for me to discover in the apartment, and it was just the sweetest gesture ever. I want to return the favor to him this year, and sneak my own notes into his luggage before he leaves and in his cabin when I visit. I decided that it would be perfect to use romantic quotes from show tunes - but I really don't know anything about theater other than what I've picked up from osmosis. I could google for Broadway quotes, but they wouldn't have any significance to me. So I'm hoping that if I give some ideas of what he likes and dislikes, the hivemind could make some thoughtful suggestions. [more inside]

What do Brigitta and Louisa mean by their lines in "So Long, Farewell"?

In the song "So Long, Farewell" from The Sound of Music, why does Brigitta sing "I'm glad to go, I cannot tell a lie" (i.e. is she tired? is she bored by the grown-ups?), and why does Louisa sing "I flit, I float, I fleetly flee, I fly" (does she, too, want to get out of there? is she half-asleep?)? Are their lines meant to be interpreted as somehow related, since they do a little dance together immediately afterwards? Yes, this is settle-an-argument filter, so I'm looking for canonical or otherwise authoritative info, not just casual speculation.

Video recordings of original Broadway "Annie" performances...do they even exist?

...because Google-fu is failing me thus far. I'm in the midst of a random nostalgia attack regarding the musical "Annie", and would love to find a video recording of either a late 1970s or early 1980s performance. Why are they always singing? You got something to say, SAY IT!

As a child of the 70s, I have often had some sort of revulsion to movie musicals. Well, it more like "perplxed." For instance, "Flying Down to Rio" with Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire is on right now. As is the norm for Astaire movies, there is a lot of singing and dancing. My question: Why? My understanding is that these style movies were the preferred and desired form of movie entertainment at the time, but how did that come to be? And why are there so few today? Books on the subject are welcome answers.

What constitutes a "lead role" in a musical?

My friend's two daughters are in a school musical, and she is naturally extremely pleased. She's been telling everyone that they have the "leads", but neither is cast in the leading female role. I think "lead role" refers to the leading female and the leading male roles, as in this case there are both? (In single gender plays, I would think the "lead roles" would be the two characters with the most lines? ) Of course I won't point this out to her....and I'm wondering if I am wrong? The musical is "Thoroughly Modern Millie".
