Hybrid music?

MusicFilter: I really seem to have a thing for bands that combine two vastly different genres. For example, Dimmu Borgir combines an orchestra and a death metal band to form an excellent mix of metal + symphonic. What other bands should I check out? [more inside]

What is that behind Jim Morrison?

I need help identifying an obscure, ancient-looking sculpture. A picture of it appears pinned to the inside of a door in a photo of Jim Morrison holding a gas mask. Here is the photo of Jim My interest is in the photo over his left shoulder. Try not to be distracted by the one over his right shoulder. If you crop out the item and turn it right-side up, you get this. So, all you classical history buffs, recognize the statue?? [more inside]

What's the name of this French Jazz-Trip-Pop album and band?

Around 2000, there was an album released from a French band that sounded like what would happen if Kind Of Blue Miles Davis and Portishead were to meet in a dark alley and get on really well. (In fact, that's basically the description given by Other Music ages ago, when I purchased the album.) I managed to lose it within a month and it's been bothering me for the last four or five years. I remember that the cover was blue and I really liked the record and that's basically it Any help, members of the green?

Johnny Cash Folsom prison inspiration?

I remember hearing once that someone in the audience at Johhny Cash's Folsom Prison performance - as a prisoner - was inspired by it to go on to a successful career as a singer/songwriter. Is this apocryphal? If not, who was it? Someone mentioned to me Waylon Jennings, but I don't think it's him. Google is inconclusive.

Music Download Services

A friend has a band, the band has CDs, the band want to sell digital downloads of the music on those CDs. Is there a web site that offers some kind of service to help with the problem of payment processing and hosting the files? They already have their songs in the iTunes Music Store, but they also want to offer them from their own site. This would let them keep a bigger chunk of the price paid, and offer the songs to people not served by iTMS (for geographical, technological or ideological reasons). They might be willing to use plain mp3s, without DRM, if this is what's needed to offer the songs on their site.

Science behind music therapy?

For as long as I can remember, I have used music to engage in regular therapeutic sessions, eventually resulting in powerful states of bliss, catharsis, and waves of intense sensations. While I certainly have my own opinion on the positive effects of this practice, I have never really known anything about the science behind the phenomena. Does anyone know exactly why such an experience can be induced on demand with this sort of music therapy?
