Let the Eagle Soar / Like She's Never Soared Before

Who remembers/loves the John Ashcroft hit "Let the Eagle Soar?" Trying to find an mp3 *and* a MIDI (or instrumental version) of the song on the Internet, but every file I've found is scratchy, a poorly-edited cut (it cuts out near "This country's far too young to die" or both. Help!

Where has this Manuel de Falla piece been used?

Can anyone recognize this theme(YSI mp3 extract; 1.2MB) from Manuel de Falla's El Amor Brujo? I have a strong sense that I've heard it appropriated as(or "inspired") some movie's theme, but the IMDb soundtrack search doesn't throw up anything familiar, credited to de Falla.

play me a tune

For theatre (and other) projects, I sometimes need music that I can't find on CD. Is there a service that lets you email sheet music to a musician, who then a musician records the song and sends it back to you as an mp3? I'm looking instrumental music -- no vocals. Just a piano/keyboard is generally fine. [more inside]

Songs about 'home' and 'soul.'

I'm doing a presentation soon, and I need some ideas of popular songs that relate to home, coming home, the journey home, and soul (either "the soul" or just soul itself in title/lyrics). The songs need to be quasi-knowledgable to a large audience of a large age/culture range. Thanks in advance!

Music styles in rural USA

How come all rural radio stations in the U.S. seem to be universally country or rap/hip-hop? Is there a reason that alternative, techno, jazz, new wave, and disco flourishes in the city and fizzles in the country? Is there really something about rural areas that fosters a narrow, homogenous interest in music, or is it a self-perpetuating cycle between listeners and marketing demographics? Or are folks in the country much more diverse than we're led to believe?

what non-roots reggae do you enjoy?

I have come to be interested in classic reggae (in a suburban, lame-o, non-stoner fashion). Whose work should I look for? I generally prefer secular (not roots) songs (like most of The Maytals's songs) to religious stuff (like Junior Murvin's). Who else should I look into? Don't be afraid to be obvious, because I've covered about half of the artists that I am familiar with in the above comparison. [more inside]

What do you do when you've been scammed on eBay?

I am concerned that a CD I've committed to buy on eBay is a counterfeit. The item's identification number is 4881752639. My concerns were raised after I read some of the seller's feedback from buyers and consequently the feedback the seller has left for them. Also, some buyers have gone so far as to create warning pages for others. There's even damning comments on Znooq's blog about the exact same item I've bought. [more inside]

Would like information about a music psychology experiment.

When I was a music student, we had a visit from a music psychologist who worked in a conservatory in London... I think it was The Royal Academy. During her lecture, she described an experiment where performers were asked to play either with no physical movement, or with obviously physically expressive movements. The performers who had no physical movement were divided into 2 groups; one group was asked to play in an emotionally expressive way, and the other group was asked to play mechanically. The result of this experiment was that non-musicians could not tell apart the 2 groups of motionless performers, they could only tell a performer was being expressive if they could see them moving. In short, non-musicians cannot tell if a musician is playing expressively by listening alone. Musicians could of course tell the difference between all of them. I'm now a music photographer, so these findings are of huge interest to me, especially when it comes to persuading musicians just how important it is to communicate on a visual level as well as a musical one. Does anyone have any idea where I can reference this study, or anything remotely similar? Thanks!
