What do you do when you've been scammed on eBay?

I am concerned that a CD I've committed to buy on eBay is a counterfeit. The item's identification number is 4881752639. My concerns were raised after I read some of the seller's feedback from buyers and consequently the feedback the seller has left for them. Also, some buyers have gone so far as to create warning pages for others. There's even damning comments on Znooq's blog about the exact same item I've bought. [more inside]

How to find a web engine that displayed a shimmering web of musical kinship

I can't find a cool, graphical web engine for identifying similar bands that I once used -- input a band, and it would generate a neat display of others, with your pick at the center and the others radiating out with the closest being the most similar. [more inside]

A Car Mounted iPod Hi-Fi?

I want to get a decent stereo system in my car (an Isuzu Rodeo). Nothing too fancy, but decent. I got to thinking: could I just stick the iPod Hi-Fi in my back seat? How would that sound? Any ideas on positioning, or mounting? Also, is this the lamest idea ever?

source of Tackhead samples?

One of my favorite Tackhead songs is "What's My Mission Now? (Fight the Devil!)" from the album "Gary Clail's Tackhead Sound System." It includes quotes from some kind of military brass dude talking about what the military can and can't do. Who is it talking and in what context? The samples are not identified/acknowledged. Would like information about a music psychology experiment.

When I was a music student, we had a visit from a music psychologist who worked in a conservatory in London... I think it was The Royal Academy. During her lecture, she described an experiment where performers were asked to play either with no physical movement, or with obviously physically expressive movements. The performers who had no physical movement were divided into 2 groups; one group was asked to play in an emotionally expressive way, and the other group was asked to play mechanically. The result of this experiment was that non-musicians could not tell apart the 2 groups of motionless performers, they could only tell a performer was being expressive if they could see them moving. In short, non-musicians cannot tell if a musician is playing expressively by listening alone. Musicians could of course tell the difference between all of them. I'm now a music photographer, so these findings are of huge interest to me, especially when it comes to persuading musicians just how important it is to communicate on a visual level as well as a musical one. Does anyone have any idea where I can reference this study, or anything remotely similar? Thanks!

CD Tracklisting Hijinks

A long long time ago in the year 2000 I bought a copy of the compilation album "Indie 2000 Volume 5". In the track listing on the second CD there was listed the BIS song "Action and Drama", but when I played the album the song that was on the CD was "Theme from Tokyo" from the same artist. To make things even more confusing I knew someone who bought the same album and their copy had the correctly listed song. My question to you, is how on earth is this possible?

Not the History of Rock n Roll!

Anyone ever hear a hilarious radio special on the CBC called "Not the History of Rock and Roll"? There were two of these produced. I've heard Part 2, it's got really funny impersonations and faux interviews of David Byrne, Michael Jackson, James Brown and others. I'm trying to locate the first part. Anyone have an idea of where to find it?

Looking for a Beethoven Poster or source art

I'm trying to find a poster of Ludwig van Beethoven for my wall at home. I would love to have a poster with an image of Beethoven, perhaps some notes or sheet music, and some of the text (the original German, not a translation) of the Choral movement of the 9th. Obviously, I want something very specific. I've looked at allposters.com and several other online poster sites and I haven't found quite what I'm looking for. Does such a thing exist? [more inside]
