I really like Paul Kelly's mandolin recording, "Varmland Waltz," on the
muji website. Help me learn to play similar music, either from sheetmusic or by ear from recordings, on my mandolin. I've got jig skillz and reel skillz, so I can handle music that's intermediate to challenging, I guess.

MusicFilter: Mrs. Billtron would like more music like the opening song from HBO's True Blood,
"Bad Things" by Jace Everett. She likes the sound of Chris Isaak and Junior Brown, which are the closest things in our mp3 collection, but misses the spooky vampire and warewolve ambience of the theme song. Any suggestions? Suggestions should err on the side of New Orleans rather than Nashville, since she just got back from Louisiana and really misses it.
PS I am really enjoying reading Margaret Atwood's
The Handmaid's Tale at the moment.

Does anyone know what live music will appear on the Hawaiian island of Kauai between December 30 and January 8, 2008? I'd like to check something out. Superduper thumbs up for any Okinawan music.

MusicFilter: I need to make a playlist for a cocktail hour this weekend. I'm looking for more things like Suba, Amon Tobin, or the Gotan Project. Preferably without lyrics, although non-English lyrics would be acceptable. Bonus points for Italian elements or Rat Pack ambience.

OkinawanMusicFilter: I live in New York City and want to buy some recordings of Okinawan music, but I don't want to pay $30 an album. Is there anywhere in the city or online where I can get them for less? To give you an example of what I am looking for, I really like the
collection at Far Side Music, an English website.

What's the little ditty sung in the background of Tom Tom Club's "Wordy Rappinghood"?
