The Skylark speaks in tongues.

Romanian speakers, get your radio ears on. What's she singing? I'm trying to discern the name of this folk tune. (nb.: Radio Romania itself is useless for this. No e-mail contact info on their Web site and no links or information to the "Skylark" radio program.)

I have a strange affection for the syrupy, slightly outdated, epic-sounding vocal pop of female singers like Eleni Vitali (Greece), Selda Bagcan (Turkey), Lata Mangeshkar (India), and the like. Who else would you recommend in this line? [more inside]

Identify this Middle Eastern song.

MidEastMusicFilter: Ethnomusicologists and Middle Eastern-music fans, can you identify this song? And, in any case, can you tell me more about the style of music to which it belongs?

Name that Greek tune.

GreekMusicFilter. I taped this song off of Foni tis Elladas [Voice of Greece], the Greek shortwave radio station. Aficionados, any clue as to what the first song in the clip might be? (Perhaps the announcer tells you at 00:58...)

Emergency fundraising for a major performance: can it be done?

So, a huge flock of very famous singing Bulgarians is about to show up on my continental doorstep... How do I put together a non-pocket-busting concert in a major city on what amounts to virtually no notice? Fundraisers-on-a-dime, rest assured, there's [more inside]

Bulgarian CDs in SFO.

Where in the San Francisco/Berkeley area can I get a truly good selection of Bulgarian music? (By which I mean a BulgarianCDs.com-style selection, not the usual Le Mystere des Voix Bulgares stuff. HMV/Tower-type places probably don't apply.)
