Is a DJ still a necessity?

I’m getting married in a week and a half. We expect about 130 guests in an indoor venue. Thus far, I’ve rented speakers that I’m told will be sufficient for ambient music and then a dance floor, and I’m planning on creating a Spotify playlist to play from my laptop during the dance. Am I doing this wrong? Should I panic and try to find a DJ at the last minute? [more inside]

Give me songs that are joyfully solemn or solemnly joyous

I'm looking for songs that lift your heart up, but in a... calming way? Examples of what I'm looking for would be Israel Kamakawiwoʻole's cover of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow," Modest Mouse's "Float On," or maybe The Magnetic Fields' "The Book of Love." Something that wouldn't be out of place at a wedding OR a memorial service. A joyful solemnity is the best descriptor I can come up with for what I'm looking for. What have you got for me?

did you regret not having a dj at your wedding?

I am in the early stages of planning my wedding for next spring, and starting to look into who I would hire to play some tunes for the ceremony and party. I have a pretty good grasp of how insanely expensive wedding stuff is, but I'd sorely underestimated the going rate for a dj. Can I skip it, or is that a terrible mistake? Snowflakes within. Help me post music samples on our church website

I am pastor of a church that does many weddings each year. For years, we've provided couples a CD with 20 brief samples of classical/sacred music recorded by our church organist. This allows the couple to easily select music for every part of their ceremony, but I think it might be easier and cheaper to just post these online. Can you guide me in posting 20 or so samples of 1 minute or less on our website so we avoid the cost of copying CDs? [more inside]

A playlist which prefers to play songs I REALLY like over filler?

I'm wondering if it's technically possible to "weight" a song's importance on a playlist so that it has a higher chance of being played. With that weigh ranging from "100% certainty" to "do not care one way or the other." [more inside]

Most interesting/unique studio performances of "Amazing Grace?"

I'm getting married in May. We want to play "Amazing Grace" during the ceremony. I'm hoping to find an interesting, unique, and overall awesome version to play. The funkier, the better, but traditional and beautiful versions are welcome as well. Basically, if you have a favorite performance, by a particular person or group, I'd like to know about it.

Jolly music for one violin?

What are some jubilant songs for solo violin for a wedding (pre-ceremony and parents' processional?) I had originally planned for a quartet, but it was out of my budget, and now I'm at a loss for songs that translate well or were written for just one violinist. Mostly thinking about classical, but pop would be great, too!
