I'm looking for songs that aren't objectively scary or spooky, but due to their use in horror/slasher/whatever movies/TV, they're now associated with scary times. "Goodbye Horses" in Silence Of The Lambs would be the ideal with "Red Right Hand" in Scream just squeeking in.

Years ago I saw a version of the classic weird animated sci-fi movie Fantastic Planet (Planete Sauvage) where the sounds and dialogue had been completely replaced by electronic music from Venetian Snares, Matmos, and the like. I can't find it anywhere - all the sites that blogged about it link to the same outdated video link. Anyone have a line on it? [more inside]
Help me remember music videos from that magical era when bands would record theme songs for (often horror) movies that were actually lyrically about the movies themselves and the artist would sometimes appear in the video and the video would be a story video and...well you know. Think Ramones' "Pet Sematary" or Dokken's "Dream Warriors" [more inside]
I've always had a thing for songs which sample snatches of movie or television dialogue. This question covered similar material, but I'm not specifically looking for remixes that appeared on an affiliated movie's soundtrack. [more inside]
I'm looking for movies that feature folk music in an interesting way other than the ones I've listed below (not many). I've mostly loved American and Irish folk music in the past along with some Australian bush band/string fusions but I'm pretty open-minded. [more inside]
The Henry Jackman soundtrack for Wreck-It Ralph has a 10 second section at the start of the "Royal Raceway" scene which sounds maddeningly like the opening to some old BBC sports show. I can't place my finger on it. Does anyone know what the violin part is based on, or sounds similar to? Video here at 0:33 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gdnn3mY0tYQ
What is the name, and who is the composer, of the music in this scene from Pirates of Silicon Valley?
I am interested in the time period right before WWII (late 30's) up to the Counterculture (Mid 60's). I would like some cultural recommendations from that period. I am interested in books (fiction and nonfiction), movies, tv shows, and music that was either created in that time period or takes place in that time period. Any recommendations would be appreciated!
Are there any albums which have had every single song included on a movie soundtrack? [more inside]
My career as a high end photo retoucher for magazines seems to be winding down, mostly because of the shift from print to digital/ipad consumption of content. Seems that my options are to gear up my portfolio to work for ad agencies, or learn to be a decent illustrator if I stay with it. Even so, I'm not confident that there will be enough work as things move forward. [more inside]
I use an app on my iPhone and iPad called AppShopper to keep a list of iOS apps I'd like to buy. It tracks them and sends a push notification when their price changes (or when there's an update to the app). Is there another app like that out there that tracks movies, music and TV shows (and maybe apps) on the iTunes Store? If there's no app, is there a website that does this?
Is there a web site out there that collects information about which songs are used in movies? [more inside]
I've always thought King Missile's Failure was a pretty good depiction of the kind of intrusive, self-defeating thoughts that characterize depression. The recent FPP'd game Depression Quest does something similar. What are some other works that are reminiscent of the experience of having depression or another mental illness (as opposed to depicting characters with the illness?)

I need to find music clips to go with some home videos. This one of Amsterdam is 2:45. This one of Bacharach Germany is 4:02 and this one of Frankfurt is 3:11. The clips are for my own purposes only. I share them with friends and family as reminders of the vacation time we had together. The music should be easy enough for most people to enjoy/tolerate, not too mainstream and should be perky(ish). Here is an example of a video I made on Whitehorse, Yukon where I live. I'm looking for the same sort of vibe for the other videos. [more inside]
Some of my best memories, when I think back on them, become more cinematic than linear, more musical than factual. They are a flowing montage of events, energy, motion. Often the memory is of an adventure or journey. Why does this happen? Who has written or made art about the capacity for our memories to be transformed in this way? [more inside]
Asking for a friend: At the end of Dirty Dancing, the characters dance to "(I've Had) The Time of My Life," which sounds much more a product of the '80s than the '60s. What other movies set in the past feature anachronistic music? [more inside]
My parents have finally converted their old 8mm home movies to digital format and I've been tasked with adding music and editing. What are some good songs to use for background music for movies shot from roughly 1960 through 1983? [more inside]

What are some good starting points on the study and performance of period silent film piano accompaniment? My end goals are modest, possibly to do a small show of classic comedic shorts or a famous feature for friends. I'm interested in both generic cues and full (piano) scores, as long as they're of the period. I've only just begun the research, so any introductory tips would be appreciated. [more inside]

I have long held a fantastic dream of what I want my home theater setup to be. I've tried several times, in several different ways, to realize this dream - but there is always something. There's always something that doesn't work right - that makes my final implementation lacking in some fundamental way. I'm starting to give up hope. So - I'll tell you what I want and what I've tried - and I want you to tell me if there's another way. I can't be alone here. [more inside]

The other night my roommate was watching Practical Magic and the cast started dancing around the kitchen, lip-syncing to "Lime In the Coconut." I started thinking about what a Thing that became in the films of the 1980s and 1990s. Another one that springs to mind is Julia Roberts' 1998 flick "Stepmom," where she and the kids dance in PJs and lip-sync "Ain't No Mountain High Enough." What other films had that dreaded excuse for a female bonding moment in them? Let's compile the ultimate list.

How serious is copyright infringement for a government job? Polygraph test is likely for this job, as it would come with a Top Secret clearance. I'm in college with an internship possibility ahead and I have no drug/criminal history (not even traffic violations), except for downloading music/movies semi-regularly. Do I include this on the application paperwork under "computer misuse" or leave it out?

Are there similar sites such as last.fm and the likes for other media types? I'm thinking sites which can recommend e.g. books and movies based on what I've recently read or watched. I'd prefer non-commercial sites, thus eliminating amazon.com and sites which recommend other titles based on what other users also bought together with a selected book/movie. Thanks.

Anyone know the name of a hip-hop song that uses the quote "I drive cars that shift themselves. My cars shift themselves. They're luxury cars," from the movie Buffalo 66 ? I'm not sure if the artist sings this line or actually samples the clip from the movie. Oh, and the song seems like it might also sample Sir Mix A Lot.
