What's the name for the kind of song when a LOT of people sing one word?

So is there a name for the type of song that We Are The World is? Something where a big group of people get together and each sing a little part of it? I need to find examples of songs like that - really with pop music - and I'm not sure what I'm searching for.

Yet another 'name that tune' ask...

This morning when I turned on my car, a song started playing... it said from my phone's bluetooth, but when I looked at my various apps nothing was playing the song (or any song). Usually my phone starts up the podcast I last listened to, but nothing was playing there either. I stopped the song, and then regretted it, because I can't figure out what song it was... Need Music to Work By (chill out edition)

Basically my favorite song to work to is "You Wish" by Nightmares on Wax. Largely instrumental, upbeat, melodic, a bit of funk, and just interesting enough that I can hear it but not listen to it, if you know what I mean. If you like this song, what else do you like? [more inside]

Spoken word section from a song in my head - what's it from?

There's a spoken word section in a song that drifted into my head and I'm trying to remember what that song is. Here's what I recall - it's brief, a fairly deep and scholarly man's voice giving spiritual type advice with some swirly, electronic/ambient/tinkling music underneath. [more inside]

We Are All Going To Die: 2017 Inauguration Playlist

I'm putting together a playlist to get me through this weekend. The theme is: we are all going to die/everything is terrible/this is a disaster/the end of civilization as we know it. Connections can be tenuous, lyrical/topical fit less important than the one moment of "HA! This song! Perfect!" Songs so far include REM's "It's the End of the World As We Know It," The Homeless Gospel Choir's "Armageddon," Def Leppard's "Armageddon It." Not interested in generic depressing/downbeat songs or overly sincere songs or even hopeful ones. Bitter laughs preferred.

The revolution will be sung, not televised

I was at a long protest about a month ago, over the electoral college, and to build momentum a couple of people started the crowd singing. What Roy Orbison song does this sound like?

I recently saw Eliza Rickman live, and she performed the song Lark of My Heart. Afterwards, she made a joke about how the melody had come to her so easily she suspected she had subconsciously plagiarized it, but fortunately she hasn't been sued by the estate of Roy Orbison yet. The crowd laughed so got the joke but it went over my head! What Roy Orbison song does this sound like?

Rare, hand-made electric guitar: fret repair in Bay Area?

I've got a hand-made, non-standard, one-of-a-kind electric guitar with a buzzing fret. As far as I can tell, the extent of the job should be to whack it in a little and then set it, but I'm a bit nervous to do it myself. (Plus, surely a specialist would use something better than a mallet and super glue...) What are some reliable guitar repair shops in the Bay Area I could turn to, and how much might the job cost me?

One song, multiple overlapping chord charts

I'm looking for songs in two (or three) arrangements for ukulele that can be played simultaneously. Say, a simplified version using only three or four easy chords for beginners; and a more advanced version, adding more advanced chord changes, for more experienced players. How do you create that fuzzy, slowly resolving synth sound?

What is the common term for the synth sound in, for example, Retrograde by James Blake? I'm talking about the detuned, dissonant horn-like sound that slowly resolves to a more pleasant chord. I expect expensive DSI Prophets are involved, as it seems these are suitable for producing this sound. What is going on, from a synthesis aspect? I'm not a synth expert, but I'm familiar with the main concepts.

Does anyone here use a different service for hosting music that they already own, and love it? What is it? I have a DropBox account with enough capacity, but I'm not aware of any great clients tailored for music playing. I'd like to not host my own out of a home NAS--that is not an option. Bells in Secular Music (Or Really Good Religious Music)

I was thinking today how I like "Carol of the Bells," then thought how I also like "Tubular Bells." Then how I love the album Pantha du Prince did with Bell Laboratory. So now that I know I like bells, what should I listen to, aside from really churchy or new age stuff? I can get pretty experimental in my tastes, so don't worry about being too out there. It's also okay if it's instrumentation that just sounds a lot like bells. Please avoid all other holiday music.

Of love, heroin, and . . . . . cocktail sauce?

Lucy September (lyrics) is a wonderful song from The Dream Academy, a band from England. One of the lyrics goes "With eyes you could drown in like the Marie Rose" --- who or what does the "Marie Rose" refer to?
