I'm putting together the slideshow for my family's biennial reunion. For the last 20 years the music has been very Big Chill, since it's put together by the generation preceding mine. People are usually weeping by the end. [more inside]

Country Song-ID help: very little to go on. A friend was in a bar in Nashville last weekend, and wants to ID a song she heard (DJ, not live music). The only lyric she remembers is "stay off my hit list". Not much to go on, I know. I assume it's a recent song, but can't guarantee that. Googling hasn't helped. Thanks for any help you can give! Hmm..posting at 7:30 on July 3rd might not be the best idea. Oh well.

Trying to track down a piece of mid-20th century music. It's got a whimsical "Auntie Beeb" feel to it, a meandering woodwind (clarinet) theme and unexpected woodblock or claves usage. Last time I heard it, the piece was being used ironically. Whether the piece was actually used in 1950s BBC broadcasts, I don't know, but I'd love to get its name.

What are those Bulgarian women singing about? I love listening to Bulgarian women's choir music, such as this piece here. However, I haven't been able to find lyrics or even descriptions of what they're singing about (in general, not just this particular song). Anyone have a clue?

Music Mix Filter: Long story short, next week the model at my event is coming dressed as the Alien Queen from the ALIEN movies. I have no idea what kind of music to play for the background. The film scores seem obvious but who wants to listen to clanking and increasing strings for 3 hours? I can either go scary-horror-sci-fi or campy-alien-novelty songs. Ideally I could do both. What kind of weird space music recommendations do you have? Gotta have songs about alien invaders?

I'm trying to find a song I heard a couple of years ago on public radio. All I remember is that it was maybe folk/bluegrass, and it was a guy singing about the red-headed woman that he loved, but in the end he revealed that she was a red-head from all the blood pouring over her blond hair. What are the right headphones for me? Big head, normal ears, likes loud noises, $100-$200 budget. Mostly for listening to music on my iPod Touch, occasionally playing games on my computer using it's (reasonably competent) onboard audio. I understand the listening experience is subjective, but if I can narrow it down to a short list, I can work on getting my head on various items to see how they work for me. [more inside]

Looking for good composition software on Mac. No actual recorded tracks- it'd be all Kurzweil PC-88 inputted MIDI. Must-haves include fairly easy ability to just jump in and start composin', a music score notation interface, very realistic quality of the instruments (i.e., that my midi inputted keyboard can still sound like a darn good bass guitar), and decent ability to refine the sound quality. Asking on behalf of a friend...
'One day back in 2004 or 2005 I heard a song played on the radio. All I remember is that the song was fairly long, and that at some point it descended into a kind of blissed-out psychedelia, and I remember a stoned-sounding voice saying 'You're my butterfly' with a sense of wonder.'
Any ideas?

I'm preparing a lesson on irony and I'd like to illustrate the concept with a song. Problem is, my students are more interested in R&B and hip-hop than in my boring old-person rock and roll. Can you name some (fairly current) R&B/hip-hop songs that use irony? I'm thinking, like, "Born in the USA"-style irony -- nothing too subtle.

What are some good pop/rock songs that feature an accordion? I'm not looking for any polka/cajun/zydeco-influenced sounds, but more traditional rock tunes - think "The Last Beat of My Heart" by Siouxsie and the Banshees or even "What it Takes" by Aerosmith - where it's just another backing instrument.
