Music for cleansing, venting, and catharsis in under an hour

It’s Thanksgiving, and that means drama and tension. It also means that I don’t get much alone time to vent said drama and tension. What is some good music that I can listen to in between ten minutes (time for stage setting) and an hour (private time before sleep) that will cathartically purge all of my tension? Could be sad, could be relaxing, could be angry, but after hearing it I want to feel completely wrung out and serene. Thanks!

Looking for the name of a double CD from the early 90s.

I believe the cover had an illustration of a kid on a tricycle. And it was an independent breakout, double CD, by a guy who I believe was a carpenter or machine worker. It was singer/songwriter or alt.country style. It’s haunting me that I can’t remember.

Middle School Honors Performance Series at Carnegie Hall

Does anyone have experience or knowledge (first-hand or otherwise) of the Middle School Honors Performance Series at Carnegie Hall? My kid has been nominated to audition, and while it sounds like a great experience, it's also costly. I guess I'm partly wondering if this is a legitimate and competitive audition or something more like a Who's Who publication where the main criterion is whether you are willing and able to pay for it.

'80s music video ID help needed.

Looking for a music video from the '80s. Pop/dance music, features a guy and a girl on a swing facing each other with the camera mounted on the swing as it moves back and forth. Interesting spinning effects as I recall. Had heavy play probably on BET (possibly MTV or VH1) for a short period, my guess is mid 80's.

Seeking simple album-oriented music player for my iPhone and iPad

I like to listen to albums and playlists from my music collection on my iPhone. I don't need a streaming service, or radio, or recommendations, or social networks. I just want a simple user interface that lets me pick out an album (or maybe a playlist) and listen to it. Does such a thing exist for iOS? The built-in music app has gotten way too complicated, and does not work well for me or my family. [more inside]

Burial, FKA Twigs, ______?

I'm looking for more music that combines spare, dub-steppish beats with soulful-but-altered vocals, in the vein of FKA Twigs and Burial. I am not looking for sick drops. I have a dim idea that there is a lot out there, or that this genre even has a name, but am in need of clues.

Obscure, outsider, or non-profit record labels

One way I like to explore and discover new (rather, new to me) music is by sifting deep through a record label's back catalog. I'd love to hear about labels I don't already know about or that I may have overlooked. My taste spans all genres, but I'm specifically seeking labels that feature world music/music of the non-West, field recordings, lost gems and rarities, non-commercial/non-profit, and generally obscure and/or outsider recordings. Looking for repetitive music of a certain sort.

Hello there. I'm looking for music with certain attributes. I want it to be electronic (is that even the word?), with a decent amount of energy but not too fast, and most of all, repetitive. Prefer no vocals but if they are repetitive and as monotone as possible that's fine too. [more inside]

Exciting, emotional epics - songs for your life's montage?

I recently completed the videogame Life Is Strange, which I liked very much. The game's conclusion features the song 'Spanish Sahara', by Foals. It's an absolute knockout tune - a sprawling, emotional epic that builds, builds, builds and goes somewhere truly breathtaking without resorting to walls of sound or some kind of 'epic' conclusion. It reminded me of my current favourite song: 'No Reptiles', by Everything Everything, which could be the soundtrack to a montage of a complex life. I'm looking for more songs like these. Looking for music and hopefully audio for birthday songs that might have been sung in the states before ~1860, ideally in English. Name that song / artist

I was listening to CBC Radio 2 or 3 around 5pm or 6pm on Sept 18th and heard a great song that I believe was by a band from Iceland. Knowing my tastes, it would've been a twee little indie rock song. I wrote down what I hoped would be enough of the lyrics to help me to google the band. The words I wrote are: "sweet like honey pie" (possibly from the chorus?), "rodeo" and "songbirds" (probably from the verses?). Google hasn't got me the artist or the song. AskMe, can you name that tune?
