I am a woman who, for whatever reason, builds strength and bulky muscle very quickly. My thighs right now are the smallest they have ever been, and part of that reason is that I had taken a year off from the gym. I am starting back up at the gym and I want to be fit again but I also want to do everything I can to keep from building so much muscle bulk again. Can I have fitness and strength without getting back the huge muscles? [more inside]
Thanks to severe depression I've gained about fifty pounds in under a year and wish to shed this excess weight off. Though I know how to shed weight, I want to do things differently this time by gaining muscle and avoiding meat. [more inside]
I'm a fit, active 30-year old lady, and over the last month I've noticed that when I lift my arms fully outstretched to the ceiling, the muscles around my shoulders and upper arms feel weirdly tired. I thought I'd pulled them somehow to start with, but it's lasted at least a few weeks now. Also, I've always had a hand tremor when I'm tired but recently it seems a little worse. I'll be seeing my GP soon (UK) but any ideas what I should look out for? [more inside]
I have had multiple hamstring muscle surgeries. According to my surgeon, I currently don't need any more surgeries, and I have just completed 1 year of rehab, but not with a hamstring rehabilitation expert. I would like to seek out the best hamstring physical rehabilitation expert in USA (or if they're really good, anywhere in the whole world), and go receive physical rehabilitation from them. Who is the best hamstring physical rehabilitation expert in the world? How can I find him/her?

Tokers of Mefi! I'm hoping you can help me make the most educated and effective choice when I go to restock my herb tomorrow. I'm looking to replicate what for me, as someone dealing with cerebral palsy, (and because of it, a pronounced and profoundly isolating stutter), was a life-changing experience with MJ, one that came about a year after my first encounter with the herb. MeFi, I want to flex my muscles! More specifically, I want a T-shirt that looks like a muscular male chest. Cartoon abs would be ideal but photorealistic abs will be okay too. I would like the shirt to be in color, have the printed abs be wide enough to cover my chest so it looks like I have a six pack rather than looking like a picture of abs, and be available in a men's/unisex small. Under $20 including shipping would be ideal too. This is the closest I can find to what I need but is too large, too expensive and I'd honestly prefer cartoony abs. Halp?
I really hurt my arm. I am going to the doctor, but I'm curious about people's general experiences with this type of injury, treatments, length of recovery, and general speculation about just what I did to myself, since it seems like I did several different things at once. [more inside]
I have just started up on wellbutrin XL 150mg about a week ago, and my shoulder has been getting really achey. My shoulder is tiring out very quickly when lifting things/typing. My hand is tingling a little, and it feels like my left pec is really tight. and doesn't think it has anything to do with the med. But it says online that muscle pain could be a rare side effect of wellbutrin. Has anyone who has taken wellbutrin had difficulties with, or even had to quit, because of muscle tension? Do these problems go away after the startup period?
I am rehabbing my hamstring from injury and after a hard day of rehab I am sore for about 4 days after. What steps can I take (before or after working out) to lessen the intensity and or duration of DOMS? And scientific data to back it up? I do ice baths immediately after exercise, and I re hydrate as much as possible during and after workout. I have a foam roller, I don't use it because any evidence of it helping has been anecdotal. Will it help? How about a lacrosse ball? Thanks.
So I'm older now and I know that injuries take long to heal. I'm just trying to get a handle on my new normal. I pulled the muscles in my upper arm two months ago and it's still sore. Is this normal for age 40ish? [more inside]

I am a runner, and soccer player. I have had 3 surgeries over the past 2 years to try to repair my right hamstring muscle from chronic tendionosis, hamstring syndrome, and I had a tenotomy. Now according to my MRI:"At around mid part there is a scar tissue formation of approximately 3 to 4 cm in the biceps femoris muscle which ís the lateral side of the hamstrings. Both above and below the scar the muscle looks perfectly normal." I currently have pain in any jogging, or specific use of my right hamstring muscle. I did rehab for 6 months post surgery in USA, but now I had to come to a small town in China, where there is no rehab. Is scar tissue capable of being my main culprit for me have pain during jogging? How easily is scar tissue removed through foam rolling, deep massage, Active Release Therapy? Is 3 to 4 cm a lot of scar tissue? How long will it take me to remove that much? (ballpark). How can I educate myself on what is going on with my body? Thanks
I have just ramped up my exercise a little, adding some intermittent jogging to my long walks (I'm every other day, or every third day). It has been several years since I did any sort of running more than an occasional dash to catch the bus, and my quadriceps are sore. Searching online, I have found advice that ranges from "do not do any more exercise until your muscles are no longer sore" to "power through no matter what!" MeFi, what should I do to mitigate muscle soreness and keep myself in good shape so I can keep exercising?
When doing push-ups I would expect to be working my chest but I never get to the point where my chest feels the work because I have so much weakness and pain in my rear deltoids. [more inside]
For the longest time I have been doing some kind of lifting or mild strength training (benching or pushups, curls, etc. mostly free weights) and am in fairly decent but skinny shape. At the moment I am regularly running 5 to 8 miles every other day and, without access to a gym, doing my darnedest to wing it with the free weights I have and pushups. I am looking to put on a good amount of muscle and am willing to put in the time and effort if I can find an approachable and worthwhile gym. Some googling suggests Total Performance Sports might be worth a look. I am a male in my 20s and I'm hoping to do a couple weeks of personal training to help get a routine down. Any suggestions, Hivemind?

In 1999, I rode the Rockin' Roller Coaster at Disney in Orlando. The first thing they tell you on the ride is to keep your head back. I'm a certified idiot, and didn't pay attention, and on the first looping curve, my head was forward. A sudden jerk to the right, and I pull a muscle in my neck. [more inside]

I was kicked by a horse on my thigh Saturday evening. It appears to be a deep muscle bruise and is still fairly tightly swollen. It is much less painful than it was yesterday and I can walk on it. I wake up in the morning at 6am and walk 2km (1.2 miles) to the gym and back five days a week. My workouts last 45 minutes and are aimed at sculpting, working on a body part per day (back, shoulders, chest, arms and legs). I weigh 100kg (220 pounds) and am 180cm (5.9 feet). I want to weigh 85kg (185 pounds). What and when should I eat to loose weight and gain maximum muscle mass? and how long should it take for me to loose this weight? I work from home as a software developer and sit on my ass all day so I don't get any more exercise than that...
