A friend had some devastating news this week: she is losing her sight and (symptoms indicate) it's due to multiple sclerosis. I am young enough that I haven't yet helped friends through serious illness and lifelong physical disabilities, and I would really appreciate some advice on how I can give her the support that she needs, both in terms of practical matters and the realm of feelings. Much more detail inside.

I just found a
study from the '70s that suggests that extended breastfeeding can be protective against MS because it promotes healthy myelinization. My husband has MS, so should I breastfeed our children longer? To what age? Are there any studies about breastmilk and REmyelinization? i.e., Is there any benefit to my husband partaking of a breastmilk tonic while we have it in production?

Over the past eight years I have exhibited what might be the early signs of MS. It's my understanding that early on, the only way to know is to get an MRI. However, my GP is dismissive and doesn't seem familiar with this. I am in the United States. YANMD but I don't know if my doctor knows what he's talking about. How to proceed?

I am wanting to enjoy some outdoor exploration this year in Washington state. The catch is, I have multiple sclerosis and my ability to walk is severely hampered (I can walk short distances- maybe about a city block or 2 at a time, sometimes I need a cane, but not wheelchair bound). Where should I go?

A few years ago I was diagnosed with MS. Since then, I've grown increasingly confused about how I should plan my future due to the possible future effects of the disease. At this point I've completely lost perspective on the matter, and the more I think about it, the less sure I am of any decision being the correct one. I'm hoping for some objective advice.
