While moving, I put a glass tumbler inside a tea mug like so. Now they are stuck and I cannot separate them. I tried running hot water over them; I tried applying vegetable oil with a Q-tip but can't get it down far enough; I even tried breaking the tumbler in hopes that I could salvage the mug. (It's pretty sturdy). Any ideas?
As an Englishman, I am familiar with how some of my fellow Anglo-Saxon brethren make a cup of tea. Some make a pot of tea and decant when appropriate, and the rest, for speed, laziness or an unappreciation of our noble drink, use a teabag in a mug. But, apart from a few of our distant cousins, I remain ignorant as to how Americans, Canadians and others across the waters typically make tea (as in the hot drink made from the conjunction of tea leaves and hot water). If applicable, how do you? Are there unique variations in procedure pertaining to your locale? [more inside]

Practical gifts, coffee edition: please direct me toward a travel mug which meets these criteria: 1. All components of the mug must be permanently affixed TO the mug (no fully-detachable lids/etc). 2. It must be difficult to tip over. 3. It must be dishwasher-safe. 4. It must be durable. [Backstory: Mr. Julthumbscrew has lost-lids-to/inadvertently-destroyed/wept-copiously-about hundreds of sub-par mugs; I want to get him ONE MUG TO RULE THEM ALL.]

Looking for a large (48-64 oz) stainless steel mug/cup, preferably double-walled. I'd like something that's stainless on the inside, not plastic. Most stainless cups/mugs are about 16 oz or so (way too small), and many are stainless outside but plastic inside. Thanks for suggestions.

At a dinner party last night, the hostess served tea in these ingenious mug devices that had a) a ceramic strainer that fit inside the mug and b) a little mini-plate that sat on top of the mug, keeping the tea warm and serving as a place to put the strainer with the tea leaves when you were done steeping. Does anyone happen to know what these are called so I can look for them online?

Today I poured cream into my coffee whilst standing up. As the cream 'billowed' through the coffee, I happened to rotate my body but kept my eyes on the coffee, and I noticed that the cream 'clouds' seemed to remain in the same place while the mug turned around them, i.e. the turning motion of the mug had no effect on the 'absolute' position of the goings-on inside it. I think this is kinda cool, and I'm just curious: what principle of physics is this based on? Can someone explain to me how/why this works?
So I have a great mug. Now, if only I can drink from it... [more inside]

Anyone know how can I make my travel coffee mug not stink of old coffee? I have a fancy, semi-new travel mug made of some almost indestructible hard plastic. It's great, except for the surprisingly strong stink of old coffee and cream, which seems to have permeated it permanently. This is particularly a problem with the soft plastic seal around the lid.
