Mud on my sheepskin boots

How do I clean a muddy pair of sheepskin (Ugg knock-off) boots before waterproofing them? I picked up a pair of inexpensive Ugg clone boots for an outdoor event I participate in monthly. They came in literally as I was departing for a weekend in the woods, so I didn't get a chance to seal them before wearing them. Of course, it was muddy that weekend, and now they are caked in mud, now dry, from the event.

Is there a good way to get them nice and clean, pre-sealing? What sealant is best to make them the most resistant to the elements in the future?

Thank you!

How to get a heavy truck out of the mud?

Let's say your 35,000lb 4x4 is stuck axle-deep in mud.... How do you get it out?

Assumptions: The mud is the consistency of pudding. You have a winch, but the cable is strong enough to tow on level ground and not much more. You are far more concerned with safety and speed of recovery than you are with environmental impact, so whatever you use can be left behind. You've got 800lbft of torque, but it's pushing 17 tons. Your tires are 13in wide. You're most likely going to want to back up onto known terrain.

I plan to test a few possible solutions in a controlled situation, here's what I'm thinking (and, mind you, I don't really expect any of this to work, but I've got to do something): dig out a mud ramp, 15 degrees or so slope, ending as close to the bottom of the rear tires as possible. Place 2'x8' sheets of plywood along the mud ramp. Back out.

Plywood won't work, you say? How about laying down Hesco barriers? Steel diamond-deck?

Could you quickly turn the pudding-mud solid? Some kind of super-quickset concrete? Freeze it?

What am I not thinking of?

How can I indulge my MUD habit on the road?

What is the cheapest and easiest way to telnet from a mobile device (such as a blackberry or cell phone) so I can play a MUD on the go? I saw a previous post regarding Windows Mobile, but it's not quite what I'm looking for. I live in Japan and want a way to make the boring train ride to work a bit more tolerable. Does anyone have experience with this sort of thing? I'd like to know what kind of up front and recurring costs I'm looking at, and would also like to hear thoughts on which system people seem to like best (Windows Mobile, Blackberry, etc.). I've already looked into using an iPod touch, but something that relies on wifi hotspots is useless for me, as I'd like to be able to play on the train or at work when I'm not busy.

looking for warm winter boots

Looking for recommendations for warm waterproof boots in UK One of the many joys of adopting our retired racing greyhound is our early morning walks together. But it's getting cold, and so are my feet! My wellington boots that I use for gardening are uncomfortable to walk in, and have no insulation. My hiking boots are warm and comfortable, but I can't tuck my trousers into them, and lacing them up takes too long. The morning walk is very muddy and often involves wading through puddles (and will likely soon involve snow), so I need boots that fulfil these criteria:

-waterproof
-trousers go on the inside
-warm
-comfortable to walk in
-available in the UK

I know you can get fleece-lined wellies, but they never seem comfortable to walk in. The perfect boot seems to be this one, but it doesn't look like it's available in the UK.

What MUD did I play on back in 98?

Here's a long shot. In the late 90s I played on a telnet MUD in Seattle with a lot of high school friends. I've spent the last, oh, five years passively looking for it. If you have any clue or your name is Chris Rolph, help me out! It was fantasy MUD, with the central town, Midgaard, and donation pit just north and east of there. The hardest enemies in the game you could kill were the Chameleon King and Queen. Most uniquely, some ways north of town there was a complete reconstruction of my high school, Garfield, filled with teachers, students, and accurate descriptions of many of the rooms, which had been created by my friend Chris, a god (Remus) in the game. It was extremely large and pretty well populated, with a few people on most hours.

I've checked out MUD listings but can't seem to find it. I can't remember the name or where it was hosted. I'm hoping that someone, somewhere, recognizes it.

Study proposal: The Effects of Mud Wrestling on the Female Urogenital Tract

How do women who mud wrestle or take regular mud baths (esp. naked, say at a spa) avoid getting mud in their, er, orifices—or do they avoid it? Would tampons be useful in preventing such an occurrence? Or is that even necessary?

And if mud is allowed into the vagina or anus, does that lead to an increased incidence of infection (whether by yeast or bacteria)? How would one go about (or, ladies, how have you gone about) preventing such resultant infections? And do spas have problems with the transmission of such infections in their mud baths?

I've found an abstract from a study in the Journal of the American Medical Association that found a greater incidence of pustular follicular dermatitis outbreaks among mud-wrestling college students (no joke) at the University of Washington in Seattle—but that doesn't speak to the question of vaginal, anal or urethral irritation stemming from prolonged mud exposure.

(And yes, this is a serious question, I promise—the topic came up during a conversation I was party to a while back about, well, vaginal irritation/infections. Fun stuff, huh?)

MUD client for Windows Mobile? Converting Windows software to Windows mobile.

A MUD client (used for text-based role playing games) for Windows Mobile. Is there one? How easy would it be to make one or convert an open source version? A MUD client is essentially a terminal so it should be pretty easy to implement on a Windows Mobile device. I haven't seen any in the wild, so I'm wondering if I've missed it -- and if not, how easy it would be to write one, or to convert an existing open source client into something usable on Windows Mobile.

Are there any tools for converting regular Windows software to Windows Mobile? Any emulators?

Any other insight?

Mud Lag

There's Lag in my Mud! The last two days I've experienced intermittant annoying lag in the Aardwolf Mud I play.

Their server is fine and nothing has changed on my end.

Running a trace route shows a big delay at one point before it times out. What can be done to fix this?

Can someone also run a trace to aardwolf.org. thanks.

Going MUDding

I'd like to join a text-based RPG MUD. Can anyone give me recommendations for some MUDs I should look into?

I loved the magic-and-questing group RPG dynamics of World of Warcraft, but now I'd like to try something text-based. I would be a complete beginner - I have no experience with MUDs, aside from studying them in a Technology & Society class in college.

Advice, links, specific MUDs I might enjoy?
