HELLO! Please explain, as if to a child, how to easily create a central and shared place for all of our music. I want to be able to play any song from our collection without having to save it to my computer. How does this work? We have a wireless network in our house and some ability to buy a gadget to help with this but want guidance on what actually works.
I am not a techie and no one else in my household is either.

Please point me to software (hopefully free, but not necessarily), that will allow me to turn out an mp3-"mixtape." In other words, something that churns out copies of mp3s that are all tagged with the same "Album" name, but keep their unique artist and song tags.

iTunes filter: I store all my MP3s on an external hard drive, and iTunes is set to automatically sync my iPhone whenever I plug it in. Everything works fine, except when I'm traveling without my external hd and I plug in my iPhone. If I do that, the next time I check my iTunes all the songs that are on the iPhone have a gray exclamation point next to them. Help!

I have a CentOS server with a directory of some MP3s. What is the easiest way to have a radio stream setup so I can listen to them at work or on my phone? I looked at Shoutcast and it seems perfect, but I can't seem to figure out how to get it to randomly pick something from a directory of music instead of connecting to Winamp on a host machine.

Itunes is not retrieving titles for CDs from CDBB. It tries to but gets nothing after a few seconds. I am not sure it is even connecting to CDBB or what error(s) are occurring. I even reinstalled Itunes 9 (9.0.2 - newest) and it still does it. I do get the response "This CD was not found in CDBB database. You can enter information for the CD and each of its tracks. If this is not a commercial CD etc etc etc"...I've tried several CDs such as the Doors, Pete Townsend, Roxy Music...all ones that have worked on previous Itunes incarnations. I am not sure if it is an Itunes thing, a Mac/computer thing, or CDBB thing. This is a new thing and wasn't happening before. I have had the computer about a year if that matters. Any suggestions? Thanks for your help and have a good upcoming holiday.

I have been using Musicbrainz Picard for a few weeks now and I am running into a consistance problem with certain files. When I use the Scan function it finds the most recent album which is almost always a compilation album. There is no way to change this default behavior and there is now way to automatically give you a list of all albums this song appears on so you can choose. Is there another free/open source implimentation of MusicBrainz or a Picard Plugin that fixes this problem?

I have a few hundred jazz albums on MP3 in my iTunes library. They show up on my stats page under the heading of "Top 10 of 341 Total URLs By KBytes." My wife is going to kill me. While "fixing" her computer (g5 Macintosh running Leopard), I managed to move 20,000 of her mp3s to the trash. I actually thought I as moving one genre with "select-all", but apparently I moved the entire frickin' library. She doesn't know yet, but it's only a matter of time. I have not yet deleted these files. All 20,000 (well, 19,868) are sitting in the trash can. There's no "restore to previous location" type option, though. Help! Is there anything I can do? Is my only option to have iTunes re-import the entire lot?

I'm thinking of nuking my hard drive and reinstalling Windows XP. This means iTunes, which sits on my C Drive, will obviously be wiped and reinstalled. If I do this, will I lose all the star ratings and other individual settings I have for my mp3s (which are stored on another partition that I won't be wiping)? If so, is there some file in the iTunes directory or somwhere else that I could back up and add to my new iTunes installation so I don't have to individually rate every mp3 I have all over again?
