I am looking for suggestions for techno/trance/electronic music to help me concentrate. I thought I'd just look for "focus" music on Spotify and Youtube, but I find mostly classical piano music, and that doesn't help me focus at all. I need music without any lyrics (also no yelling, spoken words, etc), and a somewhat fast beat. [more inside]
I've been asked to put a bunch of music on an mp3 player for a visiting 9 year old girl. I know she likes the Bieb and Gaga and (for some reason) ABBA. Beyond that, I'm at a loss. Suggestions?
Specifically: How can I write a script to find out what songs are on my iPod that aren't in my MacBook iTunes library? And, more generally: What's a convenient and low-WTF scripting languge/library/bridge for iTunes/mp3 scripting needs on OS X? [more inside]
My iPod/iTunes is completely out of control. I have 8,000+ songs, and they are minimally rated. My default rating when I add tracks is 4 and I downgrade tracks if I don’t want them to come up in shuffle, which runs off a playlist that’s “all songs rated 4 or higher.” This just ain’t cutting it and I find myself skipping more songs than I listen to. Itunes smart playlists on an ipod are apparently quite stupid: A smart playlist that will list by date added to the ipod, not the entire itunes library? [more inside]
I have 2 installations of iTunes. I want to transfer a play-list from one to the other. Both have identical libraries. However the file paths of the two libraries is different on each computer. Is there a way to do this? Theres [more inside]

iTunesFilter, part I: Why can't podcasts downloaded from the Music Store play in shuffled playlists? Is there any way around this? If I'm in a shuffled playlist mixed with podcasts and regular MP3's, it will only go from regular MP3's to regular MP3's and skip the podcasts downloaded from the MS altogether. Of course, if I go back to linear play mode, the podcasts play allright. iTunesFilter, part II: Is there any way to make the podcasts always start at the beginning of the track (i.e., to remove the bookmark function)? Is there an easy way to convert a text list of songs (in "Artist - Song" format) into a working playlist? What I'm trying to do is take the Audioscrobbler Top Tracks list, and load it into Winamp. [more inside]
Is there a software that can create mp3 playlists using tags (or something like it)? MI [more inside]
What to do about the compilations? I've recently started using iTunes for my mp3-listening activities, and finally have a use for metadata tags other than Artist/Song/Album (dynamic playlists make my socks roll up and down, up and down). But how to deal with greatest-hits collections and other compilations, where the album-release date has nothing to do with when the song came out? Do people (that is, you) actually look up the year for each song? If so, where? If not, what do you do?
