I'm looking for good sources of creative-commons licensed, edgy rock instrumental music. A really good example of this is www.saviumsaliva.com. The music there just seems to work for the podcast that I'm working on. I've tried Jamendo, and one other "search engine" for creative commons licensed music, but slow going. I keep hoping for the motherlode.. So far, not so much. Anyone have any other suggestions for places to look? Thanks!

Is there a web site that offers some kind of service to help with the problem of payment processing and hosting the files? They already have their songs in the iTunes Music Store, but they also want to offer them from their own site. This would let them keep a bigger chunk of the price paid, and offer the songs to people not served by iTMS (for geographical, technological or ideological reasons). They might be willing to use plain mp3s, without DRM, if this is what's needed to offer the songs on their site.

I was excited when this service launched late last year, but after reading a couple disparaging reviews here (In the comments below), and here I developed second thoughts. Like many, my music collection is precious to me, and no matter how stellar my backup system becomes, I still worry constantly about data loss. The MP3tunes service seems like it would be a nice layer of added protection at a nominal cost, but I don't want to waste my time if isn't ready yet.

I've just got a very natty little mp3 player which comes with MusicMatch Jukebox 9 to transfer music from my PC to the player. So far, so good - but I'm having problems loading on multiple tracks with the same name - I'm much more into listening to albums straight through, and I have several albums by the same artists which (of course) have identical track names. Can anyone suggest a method of automatically renaming shed-loads of mp3's so I can listen to albums as they were meant to be heard, instead of missing out tracks which have appeared elsewhere already? I know it can be done manually, but life is too short (and Emerson, Lake and Palmer have recorded the same songs *way* too many times)! :-) Thanks!

We were rearranging the shelves in my house today, and we found a bunch of old tapes from my
Dad's friends from when he lived in Spain (he was born there, as was I). His friends mixed
a bunch of bands together to make this very cool-sounding tape, and the thought struck me: Why not
rip this? (edit: also found bunch of old tapes my brother made of a punk radio station. woot!)

Of course, I lack the knowledge required.

So my question essentially is: what sort of process, programs, and materials is one required to
go through to convert these tapes to mp3? Would the machine I'd have to buy also double as a
tape-pl-ayer itself? What about records? I've been wanting a record player for a while, and I've
been wanting to rip some records as well. Are there record-rippers which double as players? Are
there record/tape player/rippers all combined into one machine? How complicated is this process?
How expensive does it have to be? I don't want to end up with really badly ripped files, but I
don't want studio equipment, either. Basically, what do I have to go through to get good
sounding, 192-320 kbps mp3s from my tapes and records that I could then distribute via
BitTorrent? Thanks.

What non iPod hard drive MP3 players are you impressed with? Which are you envious of? Are there any that should be avoided? I'm looking to buy one in the range of $200-300US, with sound quality (especially a rich low-end) being of primary importance. Thus I'd probably end up buying one with a 1.5G capacity that had great sound over a 5G player with only decent sound. Also, I'll probably be buying on eBay, unless anybody cares to persuade me otherwise.

Concerning a large batch of mp3s and their id3 tags: I have about 5 GB of music that I downloaded from Emusic about a year ago. Due to an exceedingly stupid maneuver on my part, I accidentally stripped all the id3 tags from the files, which ended up physically renamed to something like "Untitled Album - Untitled Track 1," etc. -- so I now have about 500 songs like this.

They're organized in folders by artist and album name, so that much information I have -- I'm now in search of a utility that will allow me to get the appropriate information from CDDB or something, and then batch rename the files so I don't have to manually, and painstakingly, do so 500 times. I have both Windows and OS X, so platform's not much of an issue. If anyone has any suggestions, I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

Stupid iTunes question(s). I must have cleared some MP3 files off the machine manually (ie: in the Finder) but they persist in my iTunes "Library," which I infer is some kind of application-internal database. The songs I no longer have show up with an exclamation point [60K screenshot] but I can't sort on that column, so I'm looking for some way to just remove them all from my library. Conversely, I dropped some folders full of MP3s into my "iTunes Music" folder, where all the others are, and I can't get them to show up in the Library. Whiskey Tango Foxtrot?
