My roommate is driving me nuts and I'm wondering what my options are

Basically I paid $400 (really cheap rent) for a small room sublet in Bensonhurst and one of my friends with benefits (who I knew for about a month), heard about my situation incidentally and kept on asking me to split rent with him in the Bronx. It's not a particularly bad area and it was financially feasible (he lives alone and his dad pays half his rent just as a nice gesture, so we'd split the remaining amount - $250 a month on me and the rest on him - about the same). So primarily for financial reasons, as I could save money on rent, I started moving my things and called my landlord to tell him I'm leaving this month within a couple weeks. [more inside]

Should I move out ASAP or wait it out?

I'm a 22-year-old college grad living home with my dysfunctional family after being away at school for four years. I want to go to dental school but need to take pre-requisite science courses first. These courses should take me 1-2 years to complete. I work about 35 hours per week, but I have no savings and ~40K in student loan debt. My dad is an alcoholic and my mom is frighteningly codependent on him. The environment in my house is miserable and stale. That being said, financially it makes the most sense for me to live home for a couple more years. Should my focus be on moving out ASAP or learning to adapt to the dysfunction while I get my shit done? [more inside]

Better to cave in or leave the nest?

I got a kitten. The kitten is not allowed to live with me in the family-owned house I stay in during the school year. Do I give up on being a cat momma and leave my kitten at my parents' house? Or do I go for broke and find my own place? The easy route is galling, but the hard route looks HARD. I'm not sure whether I should swallow my pride or man up. [more inside]

Moving out of my parents' home: good or bad idea?

Is moving out of my parents’ house a good or a bad idea? On the one hand if feels foolish to leave behind a rent-free, comfortable room in a loving home, but on the other hand the desire to feel more independent carries a lot more emotional weight for me. [more inside]

Where do I start?

I am a 28yo female feeling overwhelmed by some significant life changes. I am just over 2 months sober. My current employment contract (for a great job that I love, in a very competitive field) ends in December and there is a good chance the position will be made redundant. And 2 days ago I broke up with my live-in partner of 4 years, as despite the fact that I care about him deeply, we don't communicate that well and I feel doubts about committing to a long-term relationship with him. Breakups Suck

After some soul-searching, I've decided I need to break up with my live-in boyfriend. Our lease is up in August, and I'm worried about how to deal with living together when we're no longer "together" while we're looking for new apartments. I'm sure many of you have gone through this, so any anecdotes or advice would be helpful. [more inside]

Apartment buying: because college housing is expensive.

I'm thinking of buying a cheap multi-bedroom apartment in the Chicago Hyde Park/north Woodlawn area to move into next year. I've never done anything like this before. How can I prove to my parents that I'm "mature" enough?

I'm 16 years old. I have (though somewhat borderline) Asperger's and I'm highly intellectually (verbal, not quite visual-spatial) gifted. I don't do well in school, you could say I'm an "underachiever". I graduate high school this year. I will most likely not get into either of my top universities in the city (I'm Canadian, btw). I don't mind taking next year (from graduation until I'm 17.5) to "mature a bit" but eventually I want to go to school overseas. I need to prove to my parents I can live alone... without actually living alone. [more inside]
