I have been very happily living in a 3BR apt in Seattle (lower queen anne) with a couple for almost 2 years, and today they're moving out to a house together. In 10 days rent is due. I have posted on craigslist for new roommates to move in. I've asked a few friends to help me screen people, but I'm still freaking out because I'm extremely nervous about choosing new roommates! I really like being close friends with my roommates, so this feels like dating. I'd love any advice & experiences you could share!

I have just accepted an offer to teach in a small town near Steamboat Springs, which is across the country from where I have lived/worked mostly all my life. It's a huge step for me (I'm nearly 40), and I am okay with the newness of starting over, etc. I am a bit nervous about the learning curve, but I think the people will be gracious and helpful, so that's not something that causes me to lose sleep.
What I've worked on almost day and night since taking the job offer (teaching) is a budget. It's an enormous pay cut for me (approximately $15,000), and I'm concerned about being able to cover costs. I'm more of a saver than spender, and I've always probably saved more than the average person. I know that teachers live there and survive (and maybe even thrive!) on the salary. I think I'll be okay as I get my bearings, but for now I would be so grateful to anyone who can share their thoughts about budgeting in Steamboat Springs, cost of living, anything at all.

I want to move to New Orleans in December/January. I will be a registered nurse with a bachelor's degree. I don't know anyone who lives there. I'm looking for any advice or encouragement. Where should I live? What are the job prospect like and where should I work? If you've ever moved somewhere you really weren't familiar with, what advice do you wish someone had given you?

I am moving with my family from Texas to Connecticut in early September and need some assistance finding housing. Can anyone recommend a good realtor in Fairfield County, particularly for looking at rental houses? Given our short time frame, we are especially looking for someone who is proactive and can spend a lot of time with us over a few days.

I'm moving from St. Paul to Minneapolis this weekend. I have to be out of my old apartment by noon on Sunday, but am not allowed to move into my new one until after 4pm on Monday. This creates a problem because none of the local rental truck companies seem to be willing to rent out their trucks for longer than 24 hours. Am I really going to have to rent a truck and load and unload it into a storage facility for a day, and then rent another one the very next day, or is there some superior solution someone can think of? Surely this isn't the first time this issue has arisen.
Thanks for any suggestions.

Is moving out of my parents’ house a good or a bad idea? On the one hand if feels foolish to leave behind a rent-free, comfortable room in a loving home, but on the other hand the desire to feel more independent carries a lot more emotional weight for me.

What are your tips for getting settled in a new city? I am not looking for moving tips. I am looking for tips about getting aquaintaned, settled, and secured in a new city once you are moved. If it helps, I am moving to Austin with my wife and two young kids and are leaving our friend and family behind. What services did you pay for / use that made your adjustment a lot easier? How did you learn the road system? How did you find the right community groups / churches / clubs? How did you deal with the stress and emotions that come with a big move? In a nutshell, I want to know how to make the transition to a new city a lot smoother.

We are moving cross-country and would like to plan the best route to get from New England to the Midwest, specifically to Minnesota. We were thinking of stopping at Niagara Falls and in Chicago along the way (to try Rick Bayless' restaurant!). I-90 looks pretty painfully dead along most of the way and we would like to know anything cool near I-90 along this route such as nice places to walk/parks/monuments and things to see, or great places to eat, keeping in mind that we are pescatarians so steakhouses and burger joints are not our bag. Also is there any merit to the idea of taking Route 401 through Canada rather than continuing I-90 through the USA, that would outweigh the negatives of not being able to use our smartphones while outside the States?
Any ideas? Thank you for helping us entertain ourselves on a long long drive.
