My friend and I want to move to either Washington or Oregon. What are good/affordable places to live for two poor artists in debt? [more inside]
I am considering a job offer that would relocate me from Washington, D.C. (an expensive place), to San Francisco (an even more expensive place). I'm trying to get an idea of how much of a bump in salary I'd need in order to make the move worthwhile. [more inside]
I am 24 and about to be a car owner. Next month I am moving from Utah to Indiana alone with the car, which is currently owned by mother. We don't know whether I should be given the title, have the car registered in my name and get an independent insurance policy in Utah before I go, or leave everything in my mother's name until I get to Indiana. I'll be moving with my boyfriend to a new city in a few months. It'll be the first time either of us have lived with a partner, or with each other, or in this new city. We know it's going to be stressful, but how can we make it less so? [more inside]
How do I let my friend know that her lack of communication is hurting my feelings, without sounding needy or desperate? [more inside]
So, the hubster is actively looking for work in the Seattle area and we have a few leads. We're definitely looking to move there soon. I've lived in the PNW before, but on the other side of the Sound. I have no idea what the area on the Seattle side is like and am looking for guidance. [more inside]
I'm visiting a new city for the first time with the idea that I might move there within the next year or two. What should I be sure to check out/consider to be sure I get the information I need to make a good decision? I've only moved for jobs, and have wound up in a city that stresses me out. How do I pick a better one? [more inside]
In need of a recommendation for a moving service that would move the contents of my 2-bedroom apartment from Baltimore, MD to Brooklyn, NY. [more inside]
We move quite often - every 2 years or so. I have done it all my life, but usually within the same country.Over the past 5 years that has included 3 different countries, and it looks like for the next 6 years or so we are probably going to live in another 2 or 3 countries. Looking for tips on making our admin and daily living a bit easier. [more inside]
I'm interviewing for a postdoc position at the University of Chicago next month. I've never lived in a big city and I don't know much about Chicago at all. I'm going to be visiting and would like to at least get a feel for where I might want to live as a 30-something single woman, and how I would safely get back and forth from work. Advice please? After a tumultuous nearly two years of apartment living following my separation, my kids and I are finally moving into a townhouse. (Yay!) It's a rental, but one I hope we can stay in for quite a while - it seems pretty fantastic! I have a week between when I get the keys and when I have movers scheduled, so I'd like to take the opportunity to get the place cleaner than it's ever been. Hoping to come up with a really solid cleaning plan, and a list of all the products I need to get it done. Suggestions and tips are more than welcome! [more inside]
Please help me decide whether I should ditch the suburbs and move to the city. [more inside]
Returning to running after taking a few months off, and need some new music. Can you recommend some songs not necessarily about running, but include lyrics about physically moving forward? Legs, feet moving and the like? [more inside]

Posting this question for a friend: I am moving, and will be looking for a job in my new state. I am hoping to find something quickly, but will be unemployed as of the time I move because I am quitting my current job. Is Cobra my only option, or is it possible to qualify for a plan through the exchange (possibly with subsidies)? My concern is that all the plans on the exchange website for the state I am moving to (Massachusetts) require me to be an in-state resident, which I am not yet because I have not moved.
I would like to move to NYC but have no idea how to actually go about doing so. My main priority is meeting people and making new friends, but I'm also (of course) concerned about finding work and living in an area I like and can afford. [more inside]
We are moving across town next week. "We" is me and my hubby and our 18-year-old dog, Bookie (rhymes with "spooky"). His biggest challenge is cataracts. We are moving from hardwood to carpeted floors, which will be great for traction and he will not have to go or down more that one step in the house. From our perspective, it will be a great home for him because of the carpet and the fact that he can see out windows without having to be up on furniture. We will have the opportunity to take him to visit the house before we move next week and his bed and food/water bowls will come with us. We don't anticipate any major problems but I thought I would ask for any advice you might have. TIA very much!
When people ask the question "Are you from here?", what do they mean really? Is it, were you born here or do you live here? How do you answer when you have moved around your entire life? [more inside]
My wife has accepted a post-doc position in the University of Wisconsin system with duration of around two years. Where exactly in Wisconsin is slightly up in the air, but no matter where we end up, we have a host of questions to ask about moving there and Wisconsin life in general. Once we know where we're actually going, we may have more questions about the area, but right now I think our biggest concern is winter. [more inside]
I'm planning to buy a used car in the Bay Area soon, then a month later use it to drive across the country to my new home. Do I need to consider anything special as far as taxes, licensing, insurance, etc? I haven't had a car for nearly a decade, so just buying one is daunting, let alone worrying about any additional financial or legal concerns. Is there anything I should know about?
So I recently moved to San Mateo, CA from Chicago, hurray! Pretty much everything has been great and the move quite smooth. What sucks is that in the move my beloved Panasonic ST60 60 inch was broken, likely during the drive out here. I had moved who packed it up and delivered it to UPack, then moved who unloaded it from there and moved it into my house. Sadly it didn't survive. Now I need to start looking or thinking about a replacement BUT Panasonic stopped making plasma's altogether and I wasn't expecting to have to buy a TV again so soon. What should my next TV be? I'll be moving with my family (including two young kids) to the Lancaster, PA area in August. We'll be renting a place and I'd like to know the names of some good neighborhoods where we can concentrate our searches. In-town or slightly-outside-of-town are all okay (though I want to stay within a 40 minute drive of Middletown, where my husband will be studying). Important criteria: •Friendly neighbors •Relatively low crime •Good school zone is a plus •A cool neighborhood vibe is a plus

I did it -- I bit the bullet and bought a townhouse! I'm so excited! The sale completes today, and by Wednesday by the latest I'll have the keys. Movers are scheduled for Saturday, and I'm already mostly packed. What should I do with the place between those two dates? It's a local move, only 20 min away, and I will have a least a day and a half to do stuff -- what should I be doing? [more inside]
Young professional couple, 30 y/o, being relocated from NY to work in Roseville, CA. Currently work in Manhattan and live right outside the city. We're hoping to live somewhere that is within close distance to bars, restaurants, shops, etc. but are not looking to live in the suburbs. Preliminary research has shown us neighborhoods either very suburby or college towns. We still are hoping for the california feel so are a little weary about living in downtown sacramento but are open to any suggestions. We want to avoid living in an apartment building full of college kids. We would like to be west of sacramento so in closer distance to san francisco/napa/weekend trip options.
I've been working for a medical supply company for almost a year now within the medical records department. Excited at first when I started last May of 2013 after being laid off for 3 months from my optical job for 8 years. Double the pay plus benefits to boot. Fast forward to April now and I've become semi-miserable the past 2-3 weeks. [more inside]

I am finishing my Ph.D this month and will be moving to Canada for a post-doc position. The town where I will be moving to has a VERY tight rental market and from what I have heard, apartments rent within hours of being posted on the local rental websites. My husband is flying out about a month before we officially move up to secure a place for us to rent, but we are worried about trying to pay for a place without a Canadian bank account. We don't want to give cash to the landlord because it is untraceable and we are pretty sure no one will accept a check from a US bank. Has anyone had to deal with this before? Any advice would be most welcome. Thanks!

Our landlord has decided to give us a 60 day notice to move rather than fix the hole in the roof he's left unrepaired for three weeks. We absolutely do not have the money or credit to arrange a surprise move and I feel absolutely kicked in the teeth. I need help coping. [more inside]

How much notice should I give my roommates if I want to move out as fast as possible without being a total jerk? Would paying the rent I owe for April be acceptable instead of giving them a 30 day notice? I'm not actually on the lease, if that helps. I haven't been in a situation like this before, so I am not 100% sure what to do. Thanks.

I've visited San Francisco several times over the last year, and I think the Bay Area is where I'm supposed to be. Every time I go there, I feel like I'm home. Every time I come back to Boston, I feel miserable. So it's time to start planning a move. Soon. [more inside]
My wife and I are considering moving to Snohomish (county), WA for work. She recently got a postgraduate degree in Library Science and is having trouble finding work where we currently live on the East coast (too many qualified people, too few jobs of the sort she's looking for). Pertinent details: I'm white, my wife is black, and we currently live and work in a very racially diverse urban area where couples like us are a common sight. We currently have no children but plan on starting a family in the next few years. [more inside]
