I have had eczema all my life, but it has never been as bad as when I’ve lived in Boston, where I live now. My parents have lived in the same house close to 30 years (my entire life). They just sold it, and are moving into a large condo in a month and a half. I want to put something together for my family to remember the old place and make this transition easier. [more inside]

Has anyone used an automated tool for moving (to a new house) - for example, like the Move Planner at moving.com? Your experience?
What I'd really like to do is get a package like TurboTax, but for moving. But my impression is that there is no one out there selling good (any?) software for moving. So should I buy just a book (and which one)?
And does anyone besides moving.com offer an automated (apparently) way to notify a bunch of magazine publishers that you have moved or are about to move? (I'd rather not fill out all those little cards that the USPS offers - or used to offer, and cut labels off magazines.) [more inside]

I have a car that has been sitting parked for 6 months in Nashville, TN and the tags have expired. I will be going this week to drive it to my new place in San Jose, CA. I know that I will have to pay a few hundred bucks to register it in CA when I get there and would like to avoid paying to register for a full year in TN when I only need valid pates for a few days.
I've done some searching on the TN website and can't find any information if there is any sort of temporary tag (even 10 days is more than enough) that would get me through. Does anyone have experience with this? Any ideas on what my options might be?

I am moving from santa cruz to portland. My girlfriend and I recently(4 months ago) had a daughter and the cost of living here is so high that we feel there is more opportunity for us up there. We have been invited to stay with my girlfriend's parents for a few months until we get settled, but i am concerned with finding a job that will pay enough to support us. I will be the sole earner so that my daughter will be able to have a parent with her all the time. Any suggestions?
I need to make at least $15/hr ... I have been doing construction related work for the last couple of years but would like to steer away from that in favor of something not so hard on the body. I'd appreciate any comments...

I have lived in Minneapolis for 7 years, as I went to school here and had my first "real" job here. I have been planning on moving to Oregon at the beginning of April, turned in my lease, etc. Just today, I received an excellent job offer in MN from a submission I made in October, I haven't been applying around here for the past few months. So, do I stay and take the job, or move as I have been planning, although I have no employment prospects in Oregon, just the desire for change.

Help! I'm looking for movers in San Jose, CA for next Saturday. I've heard so much about scams
that I'd really prefer someone who came with a recommandation over someone from the Yellow Pages or craigslist. My move should be easy: just to Sunnyvale and a 1 bedroom apartment with minimal furniture. I'm hoping to pay less than $100 per hour for less than 3 hours. [more inside]

Me and the significant other are moving out in about 2 weeks time to our first 1 bedroom apartment. Rent is looking about 1/3 of total income including water, gas and trash (not bad for Southern California) and most of our major furniture/appliance costs seems to be taken care of already. Is there anything we should consider, highlight, or otherwise be aware of before we live the life of paupers?

Hi, I wondered if any of you knew about where to live in Naples, Florida. My husband and I are in our mid-thirties, with 6 month baby. If the web is to be believed the average age is 137 and all there is to do is shopping and hurricane boarding and hoarding. We are a pretty hip couple moving from Brooklyn NY. We really enjoyed our neighbors and sense of community in Brooklyn but now our husband's job is moving us down to FL. We will probably rent in the short term and would like to be within walking distance of the beach and shops. Any advice would be great, thanks.

Thinkingaboutmovingfilter: We're thinking about moving to LA, right now we're in suburban DC. We've done most of the usual research, but LA just seems SO different I'm sure there's stuff we haven't even thought of. For example, I keep wondering how much of a difference things like the increased number of poisonous things will actually make to daily life. Just how different will it be and why?
