How much does it cost to live in Marina Del Rey (or LA in general)

I will be moving to Marina Del Rey from NY soon. I've been a New Yorker all my life, and don't know much about west coast economics. I do come from the 10th most expensive-to-live-in county in the country, so I'm sure I won't be terribly ruffled by the prices. I was hoping I could get some insight on how much it typically costs for: Electric, Gas and Heat, Water, Cable/Net, and any other utilties I may have missed. Thanks!

Parking a PODS/you-pack moving container in Brooklyn?

How do I get space to park a you-pack moving container (think PODS) in Brooklyn? I'm moving to New York from DC for a new job in a few weeks. I'm moving the bulk of my stuff using ABF U-Pack - I'm subletting for two months and need my stuff stored until I find more permanent digs. In DC, I know I need to get a permit for the moving container for space in front of my place, but how do I do this in New York? Digging around on NYC.gov hasn't given me any leads.

It's the perfect tool for moving and shopping at Costco. But what is it called??

If I buy an oversized item at Target (i.e. a box of Milkbones or a pack of toilet paper), the cashier will slap on a very strong, heavy-duty strap with the red Target logo on it. It's almost like duct tape, except stronger and the sticky portion is only on each opposite end. What is this stuff called, and where can I buy a generic equivalent?

Canadian moving via U.S. -- customs troubles?

Wondering if any Canadians have experience doing this... I am moving next month from Winnipeg to Vancouver. I will be having most of my possessions shipped, and will be driving my car west. In my car, I will just have my clothes, a small LCD-TV and my computer. Everything else will be shipped. My question is .. I want to drive through the U.S. on I-94 and I-90 (from Grand Forks, ND to Seattle, WA) and then cross back into Canada towards Vancouver. Does anyone know if the border officials (US or Canadian) are going to give me any hassle moving this way? I am just worried about them thinking that the stuff in my car is things I bought in the states, even though I am just moving them via the US. I have done the Manitoba-B.C. drive a few times and I want to go through the northern U.S. for a change. Thanks!
