Moving over the course of a few weeks. What goes in the first/last box?

I'm about to move! Yay! My move coincides with two weeks off! Yay! Given that I have all this time, this move is going to kind of trickle from one house to the next, moving stuff as I have it packed, with one big day in the middle where I officially change residences. So, what goes in the first box that I take over to the new place, and what goes in the last box to leave my current place? [more inside]

Moving to SF-Bay Area: Which local bank/credit union should I switch to?

We are moving from Florida to San Francisco and need to change banks- we're not super knowledgeable about this stuff and will definitely research more, but I'd like to get some on-the-ground opinions on how various local banks/credit unions have worked for them. Great customer service and low fees are of course stuff we care about a lot. [more inside]

My wife has just accepted a good job in Naples. She's a British citizen and so, according to the Italian consulate, I'll be able to get an EU residency card and a work permit, healthcare, etc. wiout much trouble at all. (Sadly, she just recently turned down a job in the UK because the spousal visa process was so onerous as to be ridiculous.) A new adventure! But we know *nothing* of Italy and Naples n particular. Max-force cleaning plan and the products to achieve it

After a tumultuous nearly two years of apartment living following my separation, my kids and I are finally moving into a townhouse. (Yay!) It's a rental, but one I hope we can stay in for quite a while - it seems pretty fantastic! I have a week between when I get the keys and when I have movers scheduled, so I'd like to take the opportunity to get the place cleaner than it's ever been. Hoping to come up with a really solid cleaning plan, and a list of all the products I need to get it done. Suggestions and tips are more than welcome! [more inside]

Is there a way to purchase Obamacare health plans if one is moving?

Posting this question for a friend: I am moving, and will be looking for a job in my new state. I am hoping to find something quickly, but will be unemployed as of the time I move because I am quitting my current job. Is Cobra my only option, or is it possible to qualify for a plan through the exchange (possibly with subsidies)? My concern is that all the plans on the exchange website for the state I am moving to (Massachusetts) require me to be an in-state resident, which I am not yet because I have not moved.

We're moving - Yay! Help us help our 18-year-old dog transition.

We are moving across town next week. "We" is me and my hubby and our 18-year-old dog, Bookie (rhymes with "spooky"). His biggest challenge is cataracts. We are moving from hardwood to carpeted floors, which will be great for traction and he will not have to go or down more that one step in the house. From our perspective, it will be a great home for him because of the carpet and the fact that he can see out windows without having to be up on furniture. We will have the opportunity to take him to visit the house before we move next week and his bed and food/water bowls will come with us. We don't anticipate any major problems but I thought I would ask for any advice you might have. TIA very much!

Buying a used car in California, then moving to Minnesota

I'm planning to buy a used car in the Bay Area soon, then a month later use it to drive across the country to my new home. Do I need to consider anything special as far as taxes, licensing, insurance, etc? I haven't had a car for nearly a decade, so just buying one is daunting, let alone worrying about any additional financial or legal concerns. Is there anything I should know about?

Help me replace my TV

So I recently moved to San Mateo, CA from Chicago, hurray! Pretty much everything has been great and the move quite smooth. What sucks is that in the move my beloved Panasonic ST60 60 inch was broken, likely during the drive out here. I had moved who packed it up and delivered it to UPack, then moved who unloaded it from there and moved it into my house. Sadly it didn't survive. Now I need to start looking or thinking about a replacement BUT Panasonic stopped making plasma's altogether and I wasn't expecting to have to buy a TV again so soon. What should my next TV be? Cool family neighborhoods around Lancaster, PA?

In-town or slightly-outside-of-town are all okay (though I want to stay within a 40 minute drive of Middletown, where my husband will be studying). Where to live near/outside Sacramento, CA?

Young professional couple, 30 y/o, being relocated from NY to work in Roseville, CA. Currently work in Manhattan and live right outside the city. We're hoping to live somewhere that is within close distance to bars, restaurants, shops, etc. but are not looking to live in the suburbs. Preliminary research has shown us neighborhoods either very suburby or college towns. We still are hoping for the california feel so are a little weary about living in downtown sacramento but are open to any suggestions. We want to avoid living in an apartment building full of college kids. We would like to be west of sacramento so in closer distance to san francisco/napa/weekend trip options.

Moving to Canada from the US - question about renting an apartment

I am finishing my Ph.D this month and will be moving to Canada for a post-doc position. The town where I will be moving to has a VERY tight rental market and from what I have heard, apartments rent within hours of being posted on the local rental websites. My husband is flying out about a month before we officially move up to secure a place for us to rent, but we are worried about trying to pay for a place without a Canadian bank account. We don't want to give cash to the landlord because it is untraceable and we are pretty sure no one will accept a check from a US bank. Has anyone had to deal with this before? Any advice would be most welcome. Thanks!
