How is life in San Francisco different from life in New York City?

I'm a late 20's native New Yorker - grew up in Brooklyn and lived in Manhattan and Brooklyn for most of my life. I've lived in San Diego for the past year. Lovely place, but it's not for me. Got a job offer in San Francisco and I'm excited and ready to make the move. I've always loved my visits to San Francisco and its walkability, culture, food, shopping, and diversity have always made it comparable to New York in my mind. I love New York, but I don't want to move to San Francisco expecting it will be just like living in New York. I've already noticed some big differences that I embrace (and some I dislike.) People who have lived in both cities (especially as a young person): what are some of the differences you found between life in New York and life in San Francisco? Thanks!

Where should I consider moving?

I've been living in Brooklyn for 5 years now, and feeling the associated pains of longterm city life. Some stuff has gone on in my professional life recently that has got me wondering if I would enjoy living somewhere else. And being in my late twenties with all of my peers getting married and having kids, life change is all around me and I feel like I'm standing still. Can you guys help me brainstorm about where I might want to live? [more inside]

Home is where...?

My husband and I will be leaving our current town in about a year and a half, and we’re starting to think about where we might like to go next. We have several requirements (explained inside), and I’ll probably be posting questions about this more than once! We are thinking about taking a couple of weeks to explore some cities in California this spring or summer, and I’m hoping some of you can suggest some California towns that might be a good fit for us so we can start planning the exploratory trip. Let's Get Out of This Country

Say I might want to leave America. (Maybe on November 6, 2012! Somewhat joking about that, so don't get too distracted.) Where would I want to live? It's Mexico, right? But where? And also, am I being crazy in not thinking more of Europe? [more inside]

What U.S. cities are best for artists to make a living?

I live in Madison WI and am looking to move to a larger city, under the impression that being in a larger city will provide me with more exposure and greater opportunities. I was thinking of moving to the outskirts of Chicago because it's close to my family in Madison and I love it there. I also miss Denver CO where I was born, but am unsure what kind of an art community it has. Does anyone know what cities are best for making a living as an artist? I have a degree in illustration but am also trying to get into gallery shows as well if that helps. Thank you very much for any advice.

Which website recommends neighborhoods in other cities based on your old neighborhood?

I once came across a website that recommends equivalent neighborhoods across cities. For example, if you asked for the San Francisco equivalent of Seattle's Capitol Hill neighborhood, it might recommend the Castro. Could someone point me to this website?
