Asking for a friend: What's a good moving company to go from Chicago to Boston with the contents of one bedroom apartment? (Clothes, kitchen stuff plus dining table, bedroom furniture, living room stuff like a big couch and some chairs, a bookcase etc. Might also include the moving of a Honda Civic.)

My wife and I will be moving across an ocean(the atlantic - from Birmingham, UK to Chicago) in a couple of months and in the process I will be abandoning 87.6% of my stuff (everything but sentimental knick-knacks, some clothing and laptops). I'd like advice on rebuilding my stuff collection - furniture, appliances, kitchen utensils and all the other stuff you need to make an apartment livable. What would you do if you could do it all over again?

MakeMyMindUpForMe-filter: If you were a not-so-young-anymore grad student to be, and had to choose between spending the next 6(ish) years of your life in Durham or Chicago, which would you choose on a purely lifestyle basis (academic/$$ considerations being relatively equal), and why? Looking for experiences of those who have lived (not necessarily studied) in either (or both!) places. Semi-relevant details inside.

ChicagoFilter: We're looking to move out of our miserable Hyde Park apartment. Hooray! We don't know anything about the rest of Chicago. What neighborhoods should we be looking at when one of us will be commuting
via public transit to Northeastern Illinois University (in North Park) and one half will be commuting (with a car) to Hyde Park? Budget-friendly ideas welcome--we're just looking for anything with more grocery stores and a shorter commute time to NEIU than Hyde Park.

I'm moving from a 2bdr (had a roommate) to a studio in the same apartment building on the south side of Chicago. I'll be moving, oh, maybe 15 floors down. The building has a freight elevator. Since I don't even need a truck, should I hire people? My desk almost doesn't fit in the door, my then-boyfriend had to tilt it in strange and crazy ways that I don't think I can do by myself. I have a loveseat, bed,
giant expedit bookshelf, and a desk - everything else I could handle myself I guess.

I live in Madison WI and am looking to move to a larger city, under the impression that being in a larger city will provide me with more exposure and greater opportunities. I was thinking of moving to the outskirts of Chicago because it's close to my family in Madison and I love it there. I also miss Denver CO where I was born, but am unsure what kind of an art community it has. Does anyone know what cities are best for making a living as an artist? I have a degree in illustration but am also trying to get into gallery shows as well if that helps. Thank you very much for any advice.
