Seattle area it is... can you help me find a neighborhood?

So, the hubster is actively looking for work in the Seattle area and we have a few leads. We're definitely looking to move there soon. I've lived in the PNW before, but on the other side of the Sound. I have no idea what the area on the Seattle side is like and am looking for guidance. [more inside]

Evaluating a City - what to look for before moving?

I'm visiting a new city for the first time with the idea that I might move there within the next year or two. What should I be sure to check out/consider to be sure I get the information I need to make a good decision? I've only moved for jobs, and have wound up in a city that stresses me out. How do I pick a better one? [more inside]

Considering move to Snohomish, WA. Difficulty level: mixed-race family.

My wife and I are considering moving to Snohomish (county), WA for work. She recently got a postgraduate degree in Library Science and is having trouble finding work where we currently live on the East coast (too many qualified people, too few jobs of the sort she's looking for). Pertinent details: I'm white, my wife is black, and we currently live and work in a very racially diverse urban area where couples like us are a common sight. We currently have no children but plan on starting a family in the next few years. [more inside]

West-ward ho?

My partner and I are considering a move to Seattle from NYC and taking a brief trip there (arriving Saturday and leaving Tuesday) to discern how we'd like it. I've only been to Seattle once, years ago for just a few days. I'm rather attached to New York living, but want to keep an open mind. Any advice on how to most efficiently ascertain how we'd like living there? Sights to see? Factors to consider? [more inside]

Where to live in the south Seattle area?

I have accepted a job in Auburn, WA and need to relocate to the Seattle area within the next month. What are some good neighborhoods to look for rentals for a late-20s couple (no kids)? We are hoping to stay under $1600 for a 2-bedroom, preferring a townhouse or small house over an apartment. We need to be somewhat central since my husband will be looking for a job and would potentially need to commute in a different direction. [more inside]

Mefites, especially New Yorkers, can I support myself in New York?

I finally moved out of my abusive household, and I am proud of myself to finally be independent now. But I moved to Seattle on a whim, and after being here for 2 months, I feel as if it's not the right fit for me. I want to move to my dream city, New York. My sublet term is up at the end of August, and I have to move, either to somewhere else in Seattle or elsewhere, either way. But I have some complicating factors, and I am not sure if I can make it work. But I really want to make it work. Can you help me figure out what my options are? Many thanks for any help! Where should a nature lover and illustrator move to?

I am in the process of moving from my abusive family's house/city to another city with the wages I have saved over the past few years, but I have been unable to choose a city. It would ideally be affordable, and have a supportive environment for artists/illustrators with natural beauty and publishing opportunities. Do any cities come to mind? Any help would be very much appreciated! [more inside]

I want to get on my own two feet. I need a plan of attack.

The Short: I'm a single young adult with a college degree and student loan debt. I live in a sterile small city with limited job prospects. I want to move out and get an entry-level or temporary job in a coastal U.S. city (NYC, LA, SF, Seattle). Please walk me through the logistics and help me devise a plan, as well as offer any advice you have on making it on your own in a new city (essentially, how to be an independent, self-sufficient adult). When you come to a fork in the road, take it: Seattle or San Francisco?

You've been offered the same position with the same company in your choice of two offices: Seattle or San Francisco. The salary is the same in both positions but, due to a cost of living adjustment, the pay is higher in SF. What are some of the factors you'd consider in deciding where to go? Which would you choose and why? [more inside]

10 days until rent is due!

I have been very happily living in a 3BR apt in Seattle (lower queen anne) with a couple for almost 2 years, and today they're moving out to a house together. In 10 days rent is due. I have posted on craigslist for new roommates to move in. I've asked a few friends to help me screen people, but I'm still freaking out because I'm extremely nervous about choosing new roommates! I really like being close friends with my roommates, so this feels like dating. I'd love any advice & experiences you could share! [more inside]

Two young midwest artists trying to move! Portland VS Seattle

Boyfriend and I have been in the midwest our whole lives and are looking to make a move to the Pacific Northwest at the end of October. Our lease is up and we will be out of work one way or another- so we might as well move then. Background info- we are both graduated artists in our early 20s, love music, nature, being outdoors and a part of our community. We are mainly looking for an active, younger, art-scene. We both want to continue to practice our art, and want a community to support that, and to keep us motivated. We are going out to visit both cities at the end of August (27th to 31st), and will make another trip later to find an apartment- and then move Oct 31st. [more inside]

Should my girlfriend and I move from NYC to Seattle? ComplicatedFilter: I'd have my current job relocated, she would not.

My (wonderful, amazing, perfect-for-me) girlfriend and I have been together 9 months (though we've known each other for several years), and are currently living together. Some background: I was born and raised in NYC, she's a transplant from Wisconsin (but went to college in Vassar). I'm 31, she's 28. Recently, my job has become frustrating and monotonous. Some of this is because the bulk of my department is located in Seattle. They recognize this, and have mentioned to me that it may be possible to relocate to the Seattle office and adjust my position. The gf and I are currently discussing the opportunity. [more inside]
