Where to buy a car?

I am moving from New Mexico to Boston this summer, and my 30-year-old Toyota pickup will not be coming with me. My plan was to fly to Boston and buy a car there- but evidently rust is a thing that happens. Is rust/salt damage enough of an issue that I should look at buying locally and driving it cross country? Moving to another state. Way too many options, help please?

I took a job that means we are moving everyone from north of Boston to north of Philly. This means packing up one house to sell and then moving everything to a new one. We have started working on the selling and buying aspects, what we don't have any clue about is how best to do the packing and moving. Suggestions please? [more inside]

Not happy in new town but husband loves it...

We moved to a new town in the UK a year ago because we wanted a bigger house and we used to live in the expensive south east. My husband worked from home and he didn't have many friends in our old home town but he doesn't need them like I do. I moved jobs and our 2 kids moved schools and we live in an amazing house we would never have afforded before. We pretty much picked this area for no other reason than it is a nice town and is cheap but we knew no-one here and it all felt brave and exciting at the time. [more inside]

I might've ruined one of my closest friendships. Should I make amends?

The backstory might shed light, but it's long and I'm sorry if it bores you. I might make a TL;DR sentence, but I suggest you read the whole thing. TL;DR. School ratings in Nashville... do they mean anything?

My family is considering a move to Nashville from Chicagoland next year. The idea of being able to afford living in the city center after having been trapped in the 'burbs sounds appealing. Listings at places like Zillow (via GreatSchools.org) and Trulia show ratings for assigned schools in these areas... and the ones for non-suburban schools are scary, like one to three out of ten kinda bad. How seriously should I take these ratings? I'm interested in both specific-to-Nashville comments and more general thoughts on school ratings. [more inside]

How do I move my worldly goods across the Atlantic?

I have recently acquired and accepted an exciting job opportunity in Sweden -- a two-year postdoctoral research post. It's great! I'm excited! Moving out, roommate upset

Life happened, and I am moving out four months before my lease is up. My roommate doesn't want a subletter because she's studying for her board exams in the next month, and also refuses to pay to cover the vacancy. She also doesn't want to discuss in person with me ("I have to go"), has ignored my email contact, and is making the landlord play messenger boy. I don't have time to argue with this nonsense, but would like to minimize hard feelings, grudges, etc., since she is in the same small grad program as I am and will be my colleague for the next year or two. Cross-country move with small cargo trailer: terrible or great idea?

My wife and I are moving cross country from Denver to Orlando, FL. We have two cars and a 1400 sq. ft. house full of furniture and stuff. We have looked into renting trucks and ABF U-pack and they all seem prohibitively expensive, eg. in the few thousand dollar range. Plus, if we rent a truck we have to trailer our other car. Our latest idea is to rent a small U-haul trailer, get rid of A LOT of our stuff, and trailer out there what we need in two or three trips. We have until about June 1st to be completely moved. However, the U-Haul trailers are heavy --about 1000 lbs-- and our car can only tow 1500lbs (2014 Subaru Crosstrek). This doesn't leave much room for things. Our latest idea is to buy a second-hand cargo trailer, about 5x8 ft, for $1500 or so, and use that. The trailers we have looked at weigh more like 700lbs. Then, when we are done with the trailer, we can sell it at a small loss. Is this a terrible idea? Has anyone pulled a trailer with such a small car? How much stuff can we carry and not exceed our 800lb limit?
