A researcher at my workplace has asked for help finding examples of his topic, early examples of "GIS (Geographic Information Systems) or GPS (Global Positioning Systems) technologies in film and TV", "examples of early precursors to map related technologies". I found someone else's Ask from earlier this year that hits on some likely ones, but he's on the lookout for older and more diverse instances if you can think of any. More details and examples below the fold!

Does anyone remember the name of that TV and Movie character actor from 60s comedies who played fussy types and his catchphrase was "We-eeell!"? (I don't know how to spell it phonetically.) It was useless trying to Google this as I can't remember which movies or shows he was in, though it seemed like a lot. Thanks!

I am racking my brain over this one. Both Google and IMDB are failing me. In what movie or TV show does a character say the following quote (might not be the exact words):
"Can you speak a little louder, only this time into my LAPEL?"
See, the character is wearing a wire, and he's not very bright.
Help me figure this one out!

begin to explain it. Can you give me some other examples of people in books, movies, internet and television that are so deliciously snarky, in that affected character kind of way?

DVDs and Blu Ray discs are such a pain with their ability to be scratched and the need to find where a disc is, is it in the right case, etc. I find myself often drawn to standard definition “on demand” movies on cable (free ones) instead of searching my own high definition or DVD movies. Is there a way to have the convenience of “on demand” and the quality of the original media?

Looking for old animated film of aliens. I saw this on t.v. in the late 70's or maybe the 80's. Aliens that kind of looked like people were in animation and sometimes they would sit like they were meditating and then a big bubble would float above them, and you could not figure out if their soul was in the bubble, or if they were somehow procreating with others by doing this. I remember that the children were not suppose to bother someone who was doing this. It was a very interesting animation. I thought that the word "planet" was in the title but I'm not sure. Any ideas??

I'm looking for movies and television shows that featured memorable, star-crossed heterosexual couples.
The man and woman must either: a) never get together, or b) get together only to have everything go horribly. No long-term relationships or on-and-off again romances, please.
Bonus points for obscurity, but well-known examples are also appreciated.
Examples:
- Red (K. Kieslowski)
- Titanic
Thanks for your help! :-)
