Are there Baby Ruths on Dagobah? Does anybody know what the prop guys used for Luke Skywalker's rations during his first dinner with Yoda? I remember it being this brown cylindrical chewy/crunchy thing. And if there is a star wars term for the Rebellion rations, that would be nice to know as well.

Examples of recurring in-jokes or motifs in film and television? Examples I can think of are the appearances of "1138" in George Lucas's movies (referring, of course, to THX-1138), and the numbers 1013 and 1121 (and, subsequently, the times 10:13 and 11:21) in The X-Files, being the birthdates of Chris Carter and his wife.

StarWarsGeekFilter: I'm trying to find out the origins of the Star Wars character Yoda. I currently live in Japan, and a buddy of mine who's lived here several years said that he met an old Japanese man who was Lucas' inspiration for the character--Lucas knew him somehow. Unfortunately I didn't get details and that buddy has left the country. So fast forward to a couple of months ago: I was watching TV and this guy was talking about the new Star Wars flick and they flashed up a picture of Yoda, and then next to it a pic of an old Japanese man named Yorida (family name), who is apparently still alive, living in some small town in Japan. My Japanese ain't so good so I couldn't really tell what they were saying about him. Does anyone have the skinny on this? My google-fu, as they say, fails me. [more inside]

A couple of people I work with and myself were having a debate on how big the Star Wars franchise is financially? With Lucasfilms being private they never release revenue. Does anyone know how many dollars of Star Wars videogames and toys are sold each year?
