Background music and effects are way louder than voices in XBMC, so much so that I have to get up and turn the volume down every time theme song or music comes on during TV shows or movies for fear of disturbing neighbors (not to mention that they're uncomfortably loud).

I have been taking video with my iPhone 4 recently, but it's been windy so I get a lot of wind noise. What's the best way to go about reducing the wind noise, and/or how can I make a microphone cover/windscreen for the iPhone 4?

How do I add an additional audio track to a .avi movie file in OSX? I downloaded a full length movie, it had stereo channel audio, but one of the audio tracks was still missing, possibly the center channel that was lost from a surround sound mix when it was bounced to standard 2 channel audio. I now have the missing audio file and need to add it to the other two.

What makes an old movie sound like an old movie? I recently watched
Young Frankenstein, and the sonic atmosphere of it was a (to me) convincing imitation of movies from the 30s. The tones of voices, timing of dialogue, even the silences, somehow. I can hear it but I can't explain what I'm hearing or how they might have accomplished this. Can you?

So I procured an HD copy of "300" in 720p matroska (.mkv) format, but the 5.1 audio track won't play on my 2.1 speakers. Is there any way I can configure VLC or another media player to convert the audio to 2.1 format?

Popped in a DVD, the Paramount thing with the circle of stars around the mountain starts in with that sweet drumroll and that martial music that means the movie is starting. Wife turns to me and says, "That music?"

Outdoor cinema-fi - I'm running an outdoor community movie series in an urban park. Should attract up to 200 people. I need recommendations for an audio set up. Last year I used my NAD amp/receiver with some home-made speakers; this set up occasionally shorted the amp (it switched off). This year I have a budget of about $1k for amp, speakers and wiring. Any suggestions? What are the major considerations? Thx
