A recent Spanish film, Silence in the Snow, begins with a striking images of horses' heads sticking out of a frozen river. Apparently a herd has run into the river and the water has frozen instantaneously around them, freezing them into it. It is a beautiful image, not dissimilar from one in Guy Maddin's My Winnipeg, and it is just a movie and all, but I've been wondering: could it really happen?

Is there a real world referent for that bleeping typing noise used in some films as a text (usually a location note) appears on the screen? It's a similar thing to that chunka-chunka typing sound used in the X-Files when the location of a new scene would be announced, but it's like a very rapid, high-pitched "beedeebeedeebeedeebeep" sound played while the letters appear. Can someone point me to that recent article which was talking about how movies from previous decades were clearly of that stylish era but that it is hard to tell apart movies starting in the 1990's until today except for maybe computer and cell phone technology?

Need help recalling the name of an obscure(?) Christmas movie. It had a boy and a girl who run away to see Santa Claus (in Lapland?) and they get in trouble with Santa and run away to a gingerbread house and (a la Hansel and Gretel) an old lady/witch puts the boy in a cage and tries to fatten him up so she can eat him but they kids push her into the oven (I think). It's all a bit hazy but I think it was from the late 80s, or possibly early 90s.

Movie - This kid creates a force shield bubble using his computer and he and his friends go into space with it. At one point I remember him putting the bubble around one of the friends and tunneling him into the ground. Anybody remember this one. It's been driving me crazy for months.
I have the vaguest of memories of a TV movie I may have seen around the mid-80s, possibly on public television. Could have been British, or at least set in the UK. It was somewhat creepy, at least it was to young me at the time. It was about a family wherein one of the boys had magic powers. My only real memory is a shot of this boy putting his hands into a kitchen counter as if the kitchen counter were soft clay or a portal to another dimension, drawing some material out of it, and making a little sculpture of an animal (lion?) Young me found that special effect surprisingly unnerving. I thought it might be a WonderWorks production but none of the titles seem to match. Ring any bells for anyone?
ActressNameFilter: Female 1990s b-rated actress, usually plays a minor sexpot villian, red-head, kinda bitchy face?
HiveMind, I need your help in figuring out a name of an actress. All I have is a vague memory of her, but I don't have enough evidence to search properly. Here's some of the gut feelings: 1) Female, in her 20s (at the time) 2) Movies took place in the early 1990s, possibly though 2000 3) I think she's a red-head, but possibly a brunette 4) Usually has a bitchy demeanor, possibly a villian... but a minor villian, like a sidekick 5) Has a large amount of sex appeal 6) Tight facial features, especially around the eyes and cheeks. More poor attempts to describe her after the cut. [more inside]

What movie or TV show was this? This has been nagging at me for years! Around 1978 or 1979, when I was 7 or 8 years old, I remember seeing a creepy teaser on TV for an upcoming movie, or episode of something, in which a man wearing dark glasses is speaking to someone off-screen. He says something like, "Don't go in there, kid, unless you want to end up ... like this!" And then he removes the dark glasses, and instead of eyes he has two things that look like raised, white ridges with horizontal slits cut into them. Something like Inuit snow goggles, but set into the eyes instead of connected in the middle. I never saw the show and this is literally all I remember about it. A friend of mine thinks it might be The Omega Man, but I'm pretty sure it isn't.
