Moving a cat and dealing with her needy behavior

I am looking for tips on how to move house with a cat (I'm moving tomorrow!). It's going to be a 4 hour journey in a car, with a cat who hates traveling (she breaks out of a her secure cat-box) and gets very stressed (cries and pants). Also, I want to try to address her behaviour issue, if anyone has the time to look inside and read her background info (sorry for the lengthy notes). [more inside]

Where should an aspiring indie Mac developer and his family move: SF Bay Area or Seattle (or Other)?

My wife and two kids and I are not able to renew the lease on the house we're renting in a Maryland suburb of DC (the landlord is selling his other house and moving back into this one), so we're looking to move at the end of August. I've also been contemplating a career change for a while, and as this "opportunity" has dropped in our lap, we're thinking about making a city change as well, that would benefit my intended Mac development career, possibly to the SF Bay Area or Seattle. Adjusting to a New Move

How long does it usually take to adjust to a new place? I moved away from my girlfriend and friends by 3 hours. I know few people (those I met at a church and in workplace)...I am having a rough time of it as i am new in town, new and stressed at job, and just new at about everything it seems. The good news is that my girlfriend and I are getting married but it will be 8 months. SO, how long on average does it take a person to adjust to new changes such as job and city? I appreciate your feedback. My anxiety is much higher than it needs to be.

How to automate sorting files into subdirectories?

I have a large zipped MP3+G collection of about 30,000 songs split into several directories and subdirectories. I have them named by "Disc-Track - Artist - Title". for example... SC7501-01 - Presley, Elvis - An American Trilogy SC7501-02 - Presley, Elvis - Devil In Disguise SC7501-03 - Presley, Elvis - Burning Love Although I have some that are named by "Disc-Volume-Track - Artist - Title". CB5012-01-01 - Stray Cats, The - Rock This Town CB5012-01-02 - Looking Glass - Brandy etc... I'm hoping to automate the following: Within a directory (and all subdirectories) Create a subdirectory for files of the same disc (or disc-volume), and move the files for that disc into that subdirectory. Repeat until every file is moved into the proper subdirectory. I'm using Windows XP.

How to move files into subdirectories in batch job?

I have a large number of files sitting in a directory. I'd like to automate the following: Take each file, create a subdirectory for it (the name can be anything), and move the file into that subdirectory. Repeat until every file is moved into its own subdirectory. This is in Windows XP (although obviously I could use a .BAT file in MS-DOS). Thanks

Please help me move my files from overloaded laptop to external drives

I've overfilled my laptop and want to move files to external drives. But moving keeps getting stopped for various reasons (and what the hell is a cyclic redundancy??) and I'm going nuts. Please send me your speed tips and procedure suggestions! The specifics: Toshiba satellite running windows xp; total c drive size 55.8gb, free space 12.6. External drives: f (in fat 32 which I'd like to reformat to ntfs) has a capacity of 152gb, and has only 66.1 free. Newest drive g (i've just formatted it to ntfs) has a capacity of 111gb, with 103 left after my abortive attempts to put an image disc of c on it. Thanks ... [more inside]

Where is Home?

My sister moved about 5 years ago from Los from Angeles (we both have lived there all our lives) to the left coast because her husband was transferred there. She was excited about the move, and has a job she enjoys and made good friends. So I was surprised when she mentioned during a recent phone call that although she wasn’t homesick nor did she want to move back, she would always feel that Los Angeles was “home.” So my question is for those who have relocated, where is home?
