Where can I get some Anchor Steam Old Potrero whiskey in Mountain View, California, today? Brick-and-mortar store required. I had planned to buy it at BevMo, but the online search doesn't seem to turn it up (even though it shows up on Google product search). I'd order it online from one of the many distributors but I need this by a flight on Wednesday.

Extended Stay around Mountain View, CA

Looking for recommendations for Extended stay around Mountain View, CA. Due to work I will need to work out of our Mountain View office. I was looking for suggestions for decent, reasonably priced extended stay (month to month) outfits to stay at around that area while I look for rentals etc. Would be looking for a studio type place with internet/TV connection and some kitchen facility.

When should I fly to SF to find an apartment?

When should I fly to SF to look for apartments available in July? Also, where should I look? My family (girlfriend and infant) and I are moving to the bay area this summer. We're probably moving in July and want to look at some apartments. In Pittsburgh, where I live now, you can generally look at apartments up to 6 months before you want to move in, but based on my craigslist searches, it seems that apartment availabilities are only posted ~1 month in advance. Is this generally true?

Also, we're probably looking to move somewhere close to Mountain View. I'll be working there and we don't want to live in SF, yet. In particular we're looking at MV, Redwood City and San Mateo. We're open to other suggestions, though. Any advice on a family friendly (but also fun, we're still in our 20's!) and Mountain View-proximate place to live?

Squishy issue

Where can I play squash and or racquetball around Mountain View, CA? I'd like to get back into either squash or racquetball, but I don't know where to play. I live in Mountain View, CA, not far from Castro St. Anyone have experience with local courts? Where can I find good facilities? Convenient pick-up games?

Ideally, I'd like to find courts within 20 min drive from my home in Mountain View is okay - closer is better. I'm willing to join a gym/club to get access, if the facilities are good and the price is fair.

Getting from Mountain View to San Jose without Caltrain

If you don't have a car, what's the best way to get from Mountain View to San Jose when Caltrain isn't running? I am staying near the Mountain View Caltrain station on Saturday night. I need to get to Santa Clara and Almaden in San Jose on Sunday morning for the start of this race. The race starts at 8, so I probably want to be there around 7. How should I get there?

Unfortunately, the first southbound Caltrain doesn't leave SF until 8 a.m., so that's out of the question. I have no experience with VTA--is it crazy to rely on it for a trip of that distance at an off hour? Is a cab my best option?

What's the deal with Santa Clara?

Why is Santa Clara so much less expensive than Mountain View or Sunnyvale? I'm looking to rent a place in the South Bay. The rents in Santa Clara are more attractive than Mountain View or Sunnyvale. The crime rate appears to be comparable if not lower [link]. The weather in Santa Clara appears to be (very) slightly better [Link, Link].

The only reasons I can think of are that 1: it doesn't have a cute downtown like Mountain View, and 2: Mountain View is in a more prestigious location due to its proximity to the peninsula (which doesn't mean squat to me). Am I missing something here? I don't want to move there only to discover that it has some terrible or annoying affliction that's not obvious to me right now.

Has anyone noticed traffic information painted directly on the streets outside of Mountain View?

I was in Mountain View recently and noticed speed limits painted directly on the streets. Anyone else seen this kind of thing? [+] A big "35" was painted on each lane of the street. It took me a while to realize that they were speed limits instead of road numbers. The latter are more common in my experience. For instance, on 1-70 through Columbus, Ohio there's a point where the road splits, and a big 1-70 is painted on the appropriate lanes. That made sense to me, but speed limits seem pretty much out of the norm and a little confusing.

Anyone familiar with other instances of speed limits or other meta-information incorporated directly onto a road surface? I've Googled for this and come up with some examples in England, but nothing else in the US outside of California.

Mountain View, CA - is it livable?

Mountain View Mountain View Mountain View. 'Might be moving there for a summer. Is it livable? [more inside] I've got a chance to intern out in Mountain View for the summer. Living arrangements are taken care of for me, so I'm not so much worried about rental price stickershock. But the apartmen is *in Mountain View* and thus, I can't live in San Francisco (I've never been there, but I hear great things of course).

1. What's to do in Mountain View?
2. What's to eat in Mountain View?
3. What is accessible without a car? (I'll be by the Moffet Air Field) Is there any city in Mountain View or is it one huge suburb?
4. Can I get into San Fran easily on Caltrain. Does the train run late?
5. Should I get a bike? I hear the biking is great in and around San Fran. Should I get a surf board? I'm not good, but hey, the cold pacific is calling my name.
6. Anything else (you beautiful) people can tell me?
