Help from Colorado Mefites!
I'm driving right now from Silverthorne, CO to Durango, CO and want to find a nice scenic backdrop of the Rockies for some photos. Between not knowing the area very well and finding out about closed roads, I'm having a hard time figuring out where to go. Ideally, it would be a place we can take pictures of our car with nearly nothing in the background but beautiful mountains. Ideas? Thank you in advance!

I am looking for literary works about mountains. I imagine they exist, because being in mountains and climbing them and seeing everything from up high is such a powerful experience. I know there are movies about this (for instance the silent ones by
Arnold Franck), and I suppose there must be an equivalent in writing. Ideally, they would be rather lyrical or poetic texts. Any ideas, hive-mind?

My recently-widowed father would like me to take him to see the Himalayas. What tour operators should we use or avoid and what issues for a 90-year old such as altitude acclimatisation should we be aware of? My dad can walk unaided but not at any great speed or distance, so long treks are out of the question. What road-based routes afford the best views? All travel tips welcome!

I'm going on holiday to Ethiopia - specifically, Addis Abeba and some hiking in the Simien Mountains. Does anyone have any tips or recommendations? Whilst I am fairly well travelled, this is the poorest country I will have visited; is there anything I should look out for or anything I should take?

How much should I budget to both equip myself and my wife for snowboarding and get us enough instruction so that we enjoy it? I mean, we own
nothing with the possible exception of some gloves we could use, and we want to get ourselves outfitted and capable of boarding happily all day at places like Heavenly or Whistler. What will this cost, or, barring that, what do we need to budget for?
