We need to turn off the internet! What is the best program for temporarily disabling our access? We need one solution for a Mac and one for Windows. Ideally we'd like something with a timer (where the internet is turned off for x number of hours) or something that requires a difficult process to unlock it. [more inside]

Can anyone recommend easy to install, cross platform monitoring software for Mac OS X - that is, something that would allow a parent, employer or teacher to, from their PC, monitor the screen of a Macintosh? Will remote desktop do this? Is it relatively easy to install?

My company has recently started internet monitoring. I believe they have set up some kind of proxy server. Unfortunately, they have blocked sites that I use for productivity. Is there any way of easily getting around the proxy server. I'm not sure if I'm right, but there must be a setting in Internet Explorer that can route my websites through another server? How do I do this and who do I use. I don't mind paying, but would perfer free. The owner of my company has become big brother and it's unfortunate because now sites can only be "work related" which can be widely (or narrowly defined) I would also like to know how to find out what they are using to do this (for curiosity purposes). Where can I look on my computer to see this. Also, I think they may have set up remote viewing. Is there any way to detect this?

I've always thought of myself as somewhat computer savvy, but apaprently I'm not, considering how clueless I am with the following question. Somewhat on the same vein as this previous thread, short of raising any suspicions by directly asking our IT guys, how can i tell if my internet browsing on my work computer is being monitored? And if it is, are there any steps I can take to counter the software, so that I may continue to waste away unproductively, with confidence? [more inside]
