Anybody out there proficient with Apple OS X Voiceover, the interface for sight-impaired users? My MacBook Pro screen is completely dead but the computer is alive. I want to use Voiceover to navigate to the Sharing Preferences and turn on screen sharing so I can access the screenless computer across the network. [more inside]

My mother has an Acer LCD (model AL1715) hooked up to her Mac Mini. The warranty expired 3 days ago, and last night it woke up after being asleep for about 45 minutes with a black line across it - the image divided in such a way that the image has rolled - that is, the bottom is at the top and the top at the bottom, split not quite equal halves. Disconnecting and reconnecting don't work, powering off and back on don't work, changing the display mode on the mac doesn't work, and we can't find a reset button. Acer doesn't answer tech support phone calls (endless holds) or emails. Any ideas?

I'm toying with the idea of getting a display to use with my 14" iBook (1.33 GHz, 768 MB RAM), mostly to watch movies on (VLC, fullscreen). Ideally, I'd like to do this while using the iBook's screen for other things (internet browsing, word processing, etc) (and on second thought, I may want to run VLC on the 14" screen and do other things on the larger display -- but that's probably irrelevant). I just bought an Apple 20 inch Cinema display (to use with my PC) but, to be honest I dont like the Silver frame around the stunning screen. What is the best way - safest - cleanest - fastest - cheapest - to transform the silver into black - and the white on the sides --- into black ... plastic coating? Magic marker (haha) paint? Snap on something? [more inside]

I recently used this script to "hack" an extra monitor capability to my iBook. (Mentioned before here.) My question is that is there a keyboard shortcut or some other speedy way to move programs from my main monitor to the other? (Other than the obvious dragging, I mean.)

Does anybody have one of the newest model PowerBooks? Is the screen as susceptible to damage from the keyboard as the early TiBooks were? I got one of the first TiBooks, and my screen got trashed almost instantly. Now I have a new PowerBook, and I'd really like to keep this screen from getting all marked up. I know some people were keeping cloth between the keyboard and the screen. That seems like a royal pain though, so I don't want to do it if there isn't any need. Is there a need?
