40 lbs of Juicy Fruit Stink

I recently bought an enormous jackfruit (40lb) which needs a few days of ripening (the price was right). It has a few small mold spots. What can I do to slow down the mold while it's ripening so it doesn't go bad, while still leaving it edible? [more inside]

What should I do with my old stamp collection?

About 20 years ago, I amassed a small stamp collection. Probably a few hundred stamps, maybe half unused, half canceled. I totally lost track of them until my mom recently mailed them to me. I don't really want to keep them. There appears to be some evidence of mold damage. What should I do with them? [more inside]

You killed the yellow mold!

My new house appears to be taking "it never rains but it pours" just a wee bit too seriously. Runoff from lots of melting snow + ancient sump pump = kaput sump pump and flooded basement. And, of course, mold. Because there's too much for me to handle, plus drywall that clearly needs to be yanked, I'm starting to ask for estimates from pros. But what should I ask them? Major red flags (hard sells, etc.)? Any advice appreciated.

Would it work to use a room-air purifier to remove mold odor in a room?

We moved into a fairly new apartment. One of the rooms had window & floor water damage (probably due to a window left open by some prior tenant), which has been repaired by management as best as they could, but there is still a mold odor that isn't going away. We're pursuing more repairs, but meanwhile, I'm trying to research other options. I'm specifically wondering if can anyone tell us if they have experience with using room-air cleaners such as this Airfree system or something by IQAir. Would one of the devices stand a chance to remove the smell of mold in the room? (And if the answer is yes, do you have experience with a particular unit being better than another?)

White foam on my wall. Is it mold?

A month ago or so a bit of water made it into a corner in my carpeted basement floor and subsequently dried. Now, in that same area, it looks like someone sprayed some white shaving cream on the bottom of the wall. Is this mold (I assume yes)? If so, what's the best way to treat it? If not, what the heck is it?

Black mold all over drywall = hypochondriac's nightmare!?

My bathroom has black mold growing at the top of the wall/edge ofthe ceiling. The wall is white paint over drywall, and the paint has been blistering and revealing thick black mold under the paint/ on top of the dry wall. This area of my bathroom sometimes leaks due to another leaky bathroom being located rght above my bathroom. My questions: 1. How quickly do I need to take action 2. Can I resolve this myself, safely 3. If I clean it, what chemicals do I use 4. If I clean it, what safety gear do I need (breathing mask, gloves, etc) 5. If I clean it, what are my health risks and can they be easily treated with antibiotics/quick doctors visti? 6. Should I burn the house down and run right now?

Is there anything fishy here?

Its that time of the year again, when I get the furnace cleaned, install a new filter, clean the humidifier ( and install a new humidifier pad), and start it all up. In the last few years, I've seen something called the "Swordfish" advertised. Its an ultraviolet light that is connected to the furnace ductwork and kill bacteria as well as mold that passes by the light. I've read some reviews about it and it sounds as though it does work. However I'm still a little skeptical. Does anybody have one or have any thoughts on it?

The Mold Creatures. What ARE they?

Hello. A weird one: In my bathroom there's some mold. I clean it up once a while, but it's kinda there. Anyway, from time to time I can see some bugs running through it. Little bugs, coming out where there's running water, and disappearing, once the water's out. They're *tiny*. Real tiny. Smaller than an ant. Anyone has any idea what I'm talking about? Can anyone direct me to any information regarding these bugs? Thank you!
