We have standard-issue Maple kitchen cabinets from 2008 construction. The kids had fun with our sink's spray and now we have several darker spots in the panel nearest the faucet. There are about twenty-five spots and all are smaller than a dime. They gave off no smell until I tried to rub them out with a little bleach water. Since then it has gradually increased so that now our kitchen smells like a home I helped clean out after a flood. Their appearance has not changed since we discovered them three weeks ago. Is it possible my moldy unit pushing my already run-down self over the edge? How much mold is too much? For how long? [more inside]
So we have a fire pit (like this). It came with a cover, which we naturally assumed was waterproof, and left the cover on unused for about a month. We went outside tonight to start a fire and uh, the logs and bottom of the pit were completely covered with orange mold. We threw the logs away in plastic bags without touching them, and then threw some new logs on and started a fire, thinking it would kill the mold that was left. We also tried not to breathe in any of the smoke and pretty much stayed at a far away distance. Are we going to get sick? My paranoid mind is already feeling a sore throat coming on. Tomorrow we plan on cleaning it with vinegar or bleach. I assume leaving it uncovered is the best option for the future?
I live in an apartment in Washington DC. I suspect that my air conditioning/heating unit is filled with mold. Any recommendations for mold inspection services? [more inside]
My first quart-sized batch of kombucha didn't look like this at all. It looked pretty normal. I'm not sure if I just need to wait, or if this is mold and I need to throw out the juice and start over, or what. Judging by these pictures, can you tell if this batch is a variation of normal, or a flop?
Our firesafe and everything in it smells like mildew. I'm not exactly sure why, I'm not seeing visible signs of mold. But I know a few older documents went in there smelling musty. It's gross, and many of the documents are important stuff that would be difficult/expensive and in some cases impossible to replace. So what can I do? [more inside]
Just moved into a rental house. House built circa 1920. Medicine cabinet interior was completely lined with nasty old contact paper. I pulled off most of the paper. Now I'm worried about three things: 1. The paint underneath the paper is flaking. Is there danger of lead poisoning? 2. Black mold in the corner crevices under the paper. What's the best chemical for removal? Bleach solution? 3. What's the easiest cheapest way to get new shelves that will fit? PHOTOS. Any advice or encouragement is appreciated. How do I make this cabinet clean and functional?
I don't like fixing old houses. Unfortunately there is much to do in this old house. The kitchen is a contact paper festival. The rental market is tight here, so landlords don't have to care.
Is this cream-colored crystallization on top of a jar of strawberry jam mold or something else? And either way, is it still safe to eat if I spoon the stuff off? (pic)
I've tried making beer, wine, yogurt, granola bars, pickles, etc... and now I want to try making tofu. The requisite gear seems, basically, to be a tofu press or mold. We have a 9-year-old front-loading Kenmore washing machine that has for the last month been giving off a musty/moldy smell. We've tried everything we can think of, cannot make it go away and cannot identify the source. What's going on and what should we do? [more inside]

I'm trying to identify two separate growths I'm unfamiliar with, just for curiosity's sake. The first is a tight, cauliflower-like dome found on the base of a cut tree trunk. The second formed tiny red "spears" on a weed leaf. Pics within. [more inside]
I've been looking for info on showering/bathing in relation to sweating and whether it's sanitary or not. I can only seem to find articles that basically say "yeah, you need to shower cause you'll smell" but can't find anything that confirms whether or not it's actually sanitary or not e.g. infections. What do ya'll think/know? [more inside]
We refinished our hardwood floors. About three months later mold started growing up through the floor in a corner of the house. The moisture captured in the area buckled the floors. In the crawl space it looked like this (picture in linked version below) We removed all the fungus, and are now removing the area that was damaged. The big question was how this happened in the first place and why in this exact spot. This seems to be the answer. The spot where the moisture was getting in through the foundation was is a transition from the original foundation to a room addition that was done about 25 years ago. (yellow circle) (photo in linked version below) The transition has a crack in the foundation on both sides (yellow circle) There were NO foundation vents in this corner of the room, no ventilation. Moisture was getting in and trapped, fungus sprouted and destroyed the floors. Here is what I am trying to get information on: What do I do to the foundation wall, interior and exterior where this crack is to thwart any future moisture issues? Here is the same text with images

My little brother had a jellow wrestling party in his basement with his college friends. It was a great success. However, they (he and his three roommates) left a large kiddie pool full of jello in his warm, wet, dark basement three weeks ago. Now there is giant kiddie pool full of mold in his basement. Much of the floor is also covered in mold. It's....very scary and smelly. How best to clean up? [more inside]

Friend lives in a Philadelphia row home. His neighbor's house was sealed by the DA. Neighbor broke back in & flooded the basement intentionally. The water also flooded my friend's basement and he is now concerned about potential mold problems. Neighbor does not have insurance. How should he proceed so as to both deal with potential mold & mildew before they become a problem and not cause his own homeowner's insurance to increase.

Please help, hive mind! I left a banana in my neoprene lunch bag and it got really moldy on the bottom. The mold didn't go through the whole bag, but it's ugly and polka dotted on the inside. It's a "Built" brand bag, made of neoprene, if that makes a difference. I ran it through a (cold) wash cycle once, and it didn't do a darn thing. I'd hate to ruin the bag with bleach, but I'm not sure what else to do. Does color safe bleach get rid of mold?

Please help me get apartment management to actually fix my leak & mold ... now, not two weeks from now
Discovered a leak last night in the closet of my apartment (yeah, the same one I wrote about before). The carpet is damp, and there is some mold. Stopped by the management office twice today to ensure it gets taken care of ASAP, but am not feeling super-confident that anything will happen anytime soon. Can you sanity-check my intended next step, or suggest additional actions I should take? [more inside]
