Creme de la Mer... without the price tag?

Creme de la Mer... without the price tag? Give me your miracle moisturizer. Added difficulty: splotchy, ornery, VERY sensitive skin. Before you ask, I've tried the cold cream -- too heavy. Cetaphil cream -- too heavy, regular cetaphil moisturizer, not enough. Vitamin E oil... nothing. I drink tons of water, take my vitamins, eat a healthy diet, and even take fish oil.

and yet. my skin HATES me. well, the skin on my face.

i have lingering scars, both from chicken pox 15 years ago, and from acne, which often leaves brown spots, even after the bump is healed. i have giant nose pores. my skin is very unevenly toned, especially around my mouth (it's not rosacea, already checked that out).

it's just ORNERY.

so. your most recommended moisturizer/skin evening/pore minimizing products, please?

Recommendations for moisturizers for an eczema sufferer in Paris?

I have super-sensitive skin which is accustomed to a hot, humid climate, and I'm now in France, running out of moisturizer. I'm looking for recommendations for face and body moisturizers which I can acquire in Paris. Some background: I was diagnosed with eczema several years ago while living in the UK, and my skin has been really sensitive ever since. Now, I use Cetaphil cleanser morning and night, and aqueous cream for dry bits around my mouth, and on my lips. I've had a reaction to literally every lip balm I've tried since my first eczema reaction, and aqueous cream is the only thing that doesn't cause a reaction on my lips. Aqueous cream isn't ideal as a moisturizer - it causes whiteheads, and doesn't really absorb well, but I'd rather that than feeling dry and itchy.

I'm on holiday in Paris now and am running out of aqueous cream... I bought some Eucerin body lotion, which I had a reaction to. I'd really appreciate any recommendations for moisturizers for my ridiculously sensitive skin. Thanks!

What are your picks for mattifying moisturizers/primers for oily skin? My skin is mostly very oily, but due to a little bit of uneven texture and dryness, I like to use a bit of moisturizer under my powder foundation (MAC Studio Fix). I'm looking for a mattifying formula that isn't too drying. I'm not breakout-prone so I don't necessarily need anything medicated. Bargain picks are especially welcome (if they are available in Canada), but I'm open to all suggestions.

NB: If you were about to suggest it, yes, I've tried the Kiehl's Blue Herbal moisturizer and found it rather sticky feeling.

Moisturizer with SPF or separate sunscreen?

Men's moisturizer with SPF or separate moisturizer and sunscreen? Is there any difference, advantage, or disadvantage to using a single moisturizer with SPF versus a separate moisturizer and then sunscreen? I've noticed that the range of mens moisturizers tend to be quite limited, and when I do find one with SPF it seems to be substantially more expensive than a regular one. Thoughts?

SkinCareFilter: Non-Toxic anti-aging skin care?

Help my skin glow while avoiding toxic chemicals! I'm 31, and I'm looking for skin care products that will give me gorgeous skin. (I currently battle dark under-eye circles and fine lines.) Problem is, a lot of chemicals in skin care products are linked to serious health consequences (neurotoxicity, reproductive toxicity, etc. etc.) .

So, my potentially quixotic quest: to find moisturizers with alpha hydroxy acid, cleansers, toners that are the least harmful and most effective.

Any MeFites have success with a similar quest? So far I've come up with Ole Henriksen as a potentially viable line or products-- success with this, or others? Thanks a mill.

MAC moisturizer mix up

I just ordered makeup from MAC and picked studio moisture fix instead of studio moisture cream. what's the difference between the two? i have amazingly dry and break out prone skin. cetaphil with the MAC studio moisture cream keeps it under control. when i was ordering, i guess i just wasn't paying attention (silly glass of wine) and clicked the wrong thing. do these products do different things? all the descriptions on the website and reviews are a tad vague, and no one compares them.

if it's important, i don't wear makeup ever and i'm 26.

if the fix won't work as a substitute, can i return things i bought online to a retail store? i've opened the box, but i haven't opened the moisturizer.

ow! my face!

I just started using Tazorac, and of course now my skin hates me (temporarily, I hope). Any recommendations for moisturizers? I've been using the Tazorac to treat acne for about a week now. I know that it's gonna get worse before it gets better (thanks to this earlier post). In the meantime, I'm on a quest for the perfect moisturizer. Tazorac makes my skin both incredibly dry AND incredibly sensitive (think sunburn). All the lotions I've tried feel good for about 1.5 seconds before the burning sensation sets in and I race for a washcloth. So far I've used a generic knockoff of Cetaphil, Jergens Shea Butter, Aveeno (regular formula), and plain sunscreen. These were what I had laying around the house; I'm a bit of a product junkie.

What's the best lotion for my sensitive, dry, acne-prone skin?

Why is my skin 41 going on 14?

Why am I, in my 40's, suddenly breaking out like a teenager? In the past few weeks I have developed lots of acne. It's mostly clusters of pimples and blackheads on my jawline. But I also have whiteheads on my nose and around my mouth, which reappear the day after I squeeze them.

Some background - I am female and in my early 40's. I had a bad complexion when I was in my teens and early 20's, to the point that I was prescribed Accutane and the skin problems mostly subsided. The acne returned in my later 20's and I was prescribed Retin-A. I used it up until last year, when my dermatologist switched me over to Avage (which is a tazarotene .1% cream) because he thought it would be less drying than the Retin-A.

My skincare routine is simple - in the morning I wash with Cetaphil and use nothing on my face except for sunscreen (Neutrogena Dry Touch). At night I use the Avage. During the winter months I use a fairly heavy moisturizer because the dry/cold air dries out my skin so much that it flakes. I rarely wear makeup.

I am in good health, eat well, and take multivitamins and Omega-3 capsules daily. I am also using a no-estrogen birth control pill (Camila).

I am of Irish descent and my skin is fair. I get flushed when I exert myself or drink, and I got some significant sunburns when I was younger and have some sun damage (freckles and spots).

I have been, for the most part, pimple free, over the past 10-ish years. No part of my regimen/lifestyle has changed recently, except in positive ways - less stress and booze, no more smoking, and lots more sleep.

So what would cause this problem? I suspect it might be the heavy moisturizer, so could anyone recommend something that won't make me break out?

hey man, how'd you make that lotion?

Need advice on making the ultimate moisturizer. I suffer dry skin and worse, sandal foot. You know, when you live in sandals and have chapped, rough, non-fetishizable feet. The rest of my body suffers winter skin. So, I was thinking of making my own cream using unrefined shea butter, coconut oil, cocoa butter and almond oil. First, which suppliers would you suggest; second, anyone with advice who has done this?

I know that there are many lotions out there but I want to have control and no petroleum products in my lotion/creme. I prefer organic and unrefined. Any advice, comments and sources welcome.

Moisturizer for winter skin?

Help me find a moisturizer or moisturizing body wash or whatever that will keep my skin from itching all winter. My skin gets dry in the winter. In the past, I've used soap to shower, followed by Vaseline Intensive Care - and just sucked it up when that wasn't enough to keep my skin from itching. I am becoming more comfortable with my Inner Girl and want to use a more feminine-feeling product than the Vaseline moisturizer (but not flowery! I am allergic to lilacs and find flowery perfumes annoying).

So far, this year, I've been using Suave coconut-scented moisturizing body wash, which is less drying than soap but still not enough moisture. The only moisturizing product I have other than that is a Bath & Body Works Fresh Vanilla cream, which smells great, and works great on my legs, but is too oily or something for my arms, which get little bumps (like miniature almost-pimples) when I use it.

I am also using Dove Sensitive Skin facial lotion on my face, which works great. I don't want to use it on my body though (assuming that would even work), because I'd go through a bottle in a week.

Ideally I'd like a soap-replacement which smells like a yummy food item or berry (or is scentless but not astringent- or chemical-smelling) and is moisturizing enough that I don't have to use anything else. Failing that, a combo of body wash and after-shower moisturizer. And I'd like the cost to be modest - say, a winter's supply would not exceed $30.

Suggestions?

LotionQuest

Help me, a very picky consumer, find the perfect lotion. Neutrogena used to make Rainbath Moisturizing Body Mist (not in any way like the other Rainbath products they still make). They discontinued it in 2002 and I can't find it anywhere. I have tried pretty much everything, including calling Neutrogena, to get my hands on it and no dice. I have come to realize that I just need to find a new product. Being totally set in my ways and adverse to change, I basically want as close to the exact same thing as I can possibly get.
- was a spray.
- was very light and not at all greasy. You couldn't feel it on your hands at all once your rubbed it in just a little bit. At the same time, it was very moisturizing.
- smelled amazing. Not perfumey, but just fresh and clean.

I can compromise on the spray part. And, fyi, I have already eliminated the Bath and Body Works lotions that contain silk. Wasn't quite right.

Ew, Desert Hands

Help me find a hand and body moisturizer. Difficulty: Las Vegas. Recently moved (back to) Las Vegas. I am still very very happy with the products I am using on my face, but I have yet to find a hand/body product that really pleases me. My hands in particular get very dry. Nexcare was just barely adequate in a more humid environment, but I honestly don't like the smell, and I feel like it really isn't holding up as well here in the desert.

I require a hand/body product that holds up well over the course of the day with little re-application, keeps my skin from cracking, and has a minimal (or at least pleasant) smell. Bonus points for being a multi-purpose product, such as a "moisturizing body wash" (although I question how something can both clean and and leave something behind) or a "moisturizer with sunscreen." Additional bonus points for reasonable price ($15 > tube), mega bonus for ways I can get a sample quantity.

best moisturizer after hair-removal cream?

what is the best way to moisturize after using a hair-removal cream? I use creams to get rid of hair on my arms. My skin becomes quite red and irritated after (which is understandable, since i'm using chemicals to dissolve hair). I used just regular body lotions to soothe the skin (e.g. Keri lotion), but they don't seem to cut it. For some reason, the lotion does not get absorbed as usual, instead - it just forms a greasy layer and sits on my skin. It doesn't feel soothing either. So I'm sitting here with greasy arms that leave greasy marks on everything I touch. :)

I thought of baby oil, but i think it will do the same thing... It feels too oily and greasy for the job. Any suggestions?

P.S. I live in Canada.

Skin care products for eczema - are any particularly pampering?

What are some nice, pampering products for someone who suffers from eczema? I'd like to buy a gift for someone who suffers from eczema and is also in need of some serious pampering. I'm thinking some of the products from Kiehls - specifically the Ultimate Strength Hand Salve, the Ultimate Men's After Shave Balm, and the Non-detergent cleanser They all seem, at first glance, to be nice, soothing products -- to me, that is, someone who's never had eczema. But a little bit of web research tells me that everyone's triggers are different, and that even vitamins in a skin product can sometimes cause the condition to get worse. Vitamins and natural oils are the special ingredients in these Kiehls products - well, in any luxury product, really. Causing a flare-up is obviously *not* what I'm trying to accomplish by this gift!

So, is this a gift that's nice in theory, but not possible to execute properly without knowing the specifics of his eczema(which, for the record, I don't think he even knows)? Is there anything else that I could give him along these lines?

Thanks in advance, hive mind.

What moisturizer should I buy? I'm looking for a decent moisturizer that won't make me oily. I have normal skin with no major issues save for the occasional hormonal pimple. My most recent products (Dove face wash for sensitive skin and Dove moisturizer) have been making me greasy! The salesperson in Sephora couldn't seem to find anything to sell me that cost less than $35. There has to be a decent moisturizer out there that doesn't cost a fortune. What is it?

MoisturizeMeFilter

I can't stand the oily feeling of lotion! I've been using aloe gel, but in the heat and dryness of summer, it just isn't enough. Slightly All of my searches have come up with moisturizing gel for the eyes and such, but I'm looking for a substitute for body lotion. I can't stand the residual oil slick feeling of lotion and I love how aloe just seems to sink into my skin, but, as stated before, I live in a hot dry place and its just not doing the job. Any suggestions for miracle products?

Do scented lotions really attract bugs? If so, are there ingredients to avoid, or is it an effect of the perfume? Is getting an "unscented" lotion good enough (they can contain perfumes too), or should I be searching for something specifically designed to not attract bugs? Any recommendations? I'm going to be spending a while in West Africa, and while I'll be vaccinated and talking malaria meds, I want to do everything I can to avoid mosquito bites.

I need a facial moisturizer that won't give me blackheads.

I need a facial moisturizer that won't give me blackheads. I've been using Kiss My Face All Day Cream for ages, but only used it once or twice a week. A couple of months ago, I started using it on daily basis, and now I've got blackheads on my cheeks and occassional acne on my throat--which I've never had in my life!

It's a shame, because otherwise I love this product. I like the way it feels and love the way it smells.

Any recommendations?
