What is the name for the irregular objects that break up a surface?

I've heard a term that describes the irregular objects such as boxes and antenna that are used to break up a surface (such as on a model spaceship). Apparently this can make it more pleasing to the eye then a smooth surface. An example would be the surface of a Star Destroyer in Star Wars, where it is basically a triangular prism with some big features, then a lot of small, indistinct things that makes it looks unnaturally perfect. Does anyone know what this term is? [more inside]

How on earth is this legal?

Is this a scam? Money laundering? Some other kind of shady deal? My housemate just had some weird money stuff going on and I can't see any reason anyone would do this unless it's something illegal. [more inside]

From photos to Google Sketchup

We're getting married (yay!) and we've got a location in mind. I want to take pictures so I can do a Google Sketchup model of the location and plan the wedding of our dreams. What's the best way to do this? I don't need centimeter accuracy, but I don't want rough estimates either.

How much of a game is modelling?

We need a quick introduction to the world of teen modelling. My friend's 15 year-old daughter has been "scouted" a couple of times, and he's not sure how seriously to take their recommendations, invitations to Milan etc. - all at the parent's expense. His daughter seems like a sensible kid (to me), and so far hasn't been particularly enthusiastic except for the opportunity for a bit of fun or a trip somewhere. He's wondering how much of this is for real, and when the games are going to start. Anyone know how this works, or have experience with teen models in the house?

Question re: statistics and financial modelling

Question about semi-sophisticated statistics and financial modeling - lets say you have N asset classes - each class has a mean rate of return and a standard deviation of returns. Also, assume you hold a portfolio comprised entirely of these N asset-classes, in certain proportions. How do you determine the probability that the portfolio might produce the a certain rate of return over P periods?
