Does the American Legislative Exchange Council promote new bills yearly?

The American Legislative Exchange Council is an organization that creates "model bills" that reflect the interest of big business and encourages state legislators to adopt those bills as legislation to introduce to their legislatures. ALEC promotes these model bills to legislators who attend one or all of three annual meetings each year. [more inside]

What is this Australian expression?

"Cheer up, _____." What is the missing word in this Australian expression said in reference to a person striving to be fashionable by affecting that stereotypical model look--gaunt, unsmiling, and miserable? I heard it probably seven or eight years ago. It's driving me crazy!!

Help me understand color theory from a mechanistic perspective

How can we (as precisely as possible) characterize what colors go well together? What underlying physical/biological or mathematical explanations underpin the recommendations of artistic color theory? How many ways are there of getting off the ground?

I've been taking an interest in model helicopter design, but I don't want to build a quadrotor. I want to make something a bit more unique. Looking around, I've found some really bizarre options, things like Flettner aircraft ("the flying paint roller"). I'd like to know just how many options for heavier than air flight there are. What Should I Do For a Fun/ Sexy/ Aesthetically Interesting Centerfold?

Hey guys, I agreed a long time ago to do pose for a Centerfold with two of my best girlfriends in the school's 'alternative newspaper'. It's done as a foldout section in the middle pages of the paper, and we pretty much have full artistic control over it. I wanted to do something dynamic and avant garde because in the past, nobody has really taken advantage of the opportunity, and it's just been a lot of posing with dumb inanimate objects held over the crotch, or in the library, or standing around outside. I want to revitalize the genre. And I need your help! [more inside]

Plastic model cleaning

Thirty or so years ago I built this model of a P-38J. Since then it's languished in my parents basement and is completely covered with dirt. I tried to use compressed air to blow it off and it didn't work very well. Does anybody have suggestions on how to clean it off? I'm hesitant to immerse it in water since I think I glued the canopy on with ordinary white glue.

Model ship building help.

Model ship kit building help. My first kit, an 1819 Virginia Schooner by Artesania Latina, is great fun to work on, but the (lack of) directions is frustrating and may be leading me to make crucial mistakes. Googling takes me to the same few sites which do offer some help but not enough. Specifically, I am planking the hull (second layer) and also fear that I’ve botched the stern configuration. Have 2 books. Both gloss over details of construction. I welcome specific suggestions on planking the hull, where to find pictures of the stern, books to get, any and all help appreciated.

Help me bring people together better.

I am thinking of organizing a speed-dating event in my city, and was wondering if people who have participated in one of these events before could suggest specific improvements I can make to the existing popular speed-dating models. Perhaps after the event, when you were hanging out with your friends, you were discussing the event the way you might talk about a movie after seeing it. Perhaps you voiced specific complaints, or areas where the organizers could have improved your experience, streamlined the event. I would like to hear them.
