Beginning in September last year, my ankles/lower legs tightened so much I'm now on tiptoes and my heels don't touch the ground. I've seen Seattle's brightest orthopedists, neurologists and podiatrists and they don't know why. We've tried a bunch of stuff and I'm now in a wheelchair. Is there anything else I should look into? Blizzard inside.

I've been working out, lifting weights, on and off for five years, but I've never paid any attention to mobility/stretching. This is dumb. Please help me come up with a defensible plan.

My father (age 79) has gone from keeping a cane in the car for occasional use to steady himself (through 2012) to being in terrible pain and needing a walker around the house (the latter after a Synvisc injection to the knee 2 weeks ago, knee swelling, and falling - again - at home alone). So far he hasn't broken anything in his falls, but I live 90 minutes away from him and he lives alone. He's accustomed to being quite active and has often been mistaken for a man 10-15 years his junior.

I'd like to take my 85-year-old mom to Delaware Water Gap for a picnic on July 4th. Mom has mobility issues (is unsteady on her feet) so our picnic spot and the route to it needs to be as short and flat as possible and preferably paved. But I'd like to get as scenic a picnic spot as I can. Any recommendations?

I want to travel, one way I have heard to do this is through organizations such as FEMA and the red cross. I am graduating with a Bachelors in English in 3 weeks and am 24 years old. There are no entry level jobs that I saw available on their websites, am I doing something wrong? Does anyone know where I can find entry level positions?
I had thought about teaching English in a Spanish speaking country, does anyone know of some reputable programs for someone wish bare-bones Spanish knowledge looking to improve?

Broke my foot on New Year's Eve and am coping with the fallout. You are not my doctor -- but my questions about mobility are non-medical and anecdotal anyway.

It's time to start looking for a new smartphone. I have the Nokia E71, and I like it well enough but for one thing: I need a phone that can adapt automatically to a small number of wireless networks for email, as I move between them. What phone should I get, or failing that, what is this function/feature even called?

So, I just fractured my left tibia and fibula. I'll be on crutches with a knee immobilizer for the next six weeks or so and I live in third floor walk up apartment (with rickety banisters). Any tips for what to do to keep myself occupied and not focused on the injury?

Assuming you don't drive due to poor vision (so you can't rent a Zipcar) is it feasible to live in the Bay Area and have a decent life, with the ability to get around, go to work, and socialize? With respect to San Francisco and Silicon Valley, what areas would be best, and what parts would be too inconvenient or time-consuming to get by without driving?

Furniture ideas for the perpetually mobile. For better or for worse, I've been changing living spaces about every six months. I'm sick of lugging furniture but don't want to live completely out of boxes. What are your ideas for cheap, compact, very mobile solutions for (at least) a desk, dresser, and full-size bedframe that doesn't require a box spring? Bonus points for book storage ideas and organizational pieces. Real furniture or makeshift (i.e. tupperware bins) OK.

Tonight I need to buy a wooden walking cane in NYC tonight. It's supposed to be sturdy and not retractable. The grip doesn't matter. Any ideas where I can buy one? The average places like KMart and Duane Reade seem to offer only aluminum and fiberglass canes.
