There are any number of mobile devices which can be used to read ebooks, go online, play games, etc etc, but is there a cheap bare-bones alternative for people who just want a mobile device for reading HTML files they transferred onto it?

I am looking for quantitative information on energy demand for mobile devices with low power requirements, such as alarm clocks, book lights, TV remotes – things that usually require batteries to run (but not devices with higher power requirements like smartphones or laptops). Does anyone know where I can find such information? [more inside]

I'm mostly happy with my Nokia 2330
(weeklong battery life, ultraslim and light candybar, disappears in my pocket, holds up to light abuse), but am getting tired of the slow messaging. The inbox and other sections/menus take forever to load, and I seem to type faster than the phone's little processor can handle. If the messaging was speedier, it would be perfect. But it isn't, and I'd like to upgrade. What should I be looking at next? I'd like to keep the features I like, but have a speedier phone. I only text and (barely) call. I will be prepaid with AT&T or T-Mobile.

A friend of mine has an old vintage phone the same as this one here
. My limited knowledge leads me to believe that because it was an old analogue phone there is no chance of getting it working again in it's current form. It's in very good condition and we were thinking if it was possible to take the "guts" out of a cheap new phone and put them inside the handset part of the old phone. We only really want to use it for novelty value but neither of us really have a clue how we would match up the keys/screen/antenna or even how to open up the older handset as there are no obvious screws to undo. If anyone could shed any light on if this is possible & how to do it we would very much appreciate it.

What are some examples of exemplary use of mobile (applications, mobile sites, sms, cameraphones, phone numbers on exhibit items) in or about museums?
Basically, what arts organizations and museums are using the fact that their audience (in or even beyond the museum) in a way that enhances the effect (educational, entertainment, engagement) of the museum, and how do they do it?

Question for Graphic Designer types: What's the best solution for secure and reliable online storage, with 24/7 access from a desktop/laptop (Mac, PC and Linux), smart phone and/or mobile device and the web, for gigabytes of graphic design files? These files include various large image formats (JPG or TIF), Indesign, Word and Illustrater files, etc, etc.
Bonus points if this secure and reliable service allows people to seamlessly add files to a public folder, either via drag and drop or email. [more inside]

Can I port my existing AT&T Wireless cell phone number to a new Comcast Digital Voice land line account?
The 1-800-Comcast customer support rep. said no, but the FCC says
"you can switch telephone service providers, including interconnected Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) providers, and keep your existing phone number".
What's the final verdict? Anyone have experience with this?

Is there any way yet to buy a truly carrier-unlocked Dell Streak in the USA? The ones in the US for $450 are carrier locked. If I buy the model from the UK, with VAT, it'll be something like $700 after converting GBP to USD, and those are -also- carrier locked, to O2. [more inside]

What is wrong with my new mobile phone? When my phone goes idle after 15 sec of no use (typical battery saving function) or loses the signal when I am in an elevator (typical situation but normally survivable), it won't automatically reconnect so it's like I don't even have a phone. How can I over come this? Is it normal for "newer" phones to constantly be searching for a signal yet not getting it or turning off like this? [more inside]
