How can I transfer files to/from a Motorola V3 Razr and a new Powerbook if the Bluetooth File Exchange seemingly can't do it? It recognizes the phone, but can't see the internal structure of the phone's storage system. Motorola's Mobile Phone Tools has no Mac version. I can sync contacts and calendars with iSync and via Bluetooth, but I have a friend who has the same phone, but the inverse problem: he can transfer files with Bluetooth, but can't get the phone to sync contacts and calendars.

Cell phone surveillance... just heard what must be an urban myth: that police have the capability to use your cellphone as a listening device and that even if the power is off, that the device can be powered up remotely. The person who passed this information takes out his battery to ensure that his conversations are not monitored. I have heard of aliens monitoring brainwaves through metal fillings, but this seems over the top. Any truth?

I've noticed that all websites which allow you to send SMS' to phones in America ask you to supply the name of the mobile network that the recipient is on. If this was asked in the UK, no-one would have a clue (thankfully they don't need to know too). However, is there any way that you can work out/intelligently guess the carrier when you have only the American mobile phone number?

Buying a new cell phone: I'm in the market for new cell phones and a shared plan, and I've noticed that most of the internet sellers are run by a company called

I've installed phone management and sync software for my new mobile phone, but cannot allocate a comm port successfully. The help file says to use a comm port from the list which has a * beside it, but there are no ports listed with an asterisk beside them.
I am using a USB connection.
Any guidance would be much appreciated

I am looking for a proven, simple and possibly cheap way to boost my mobile phone's signal. Inside my house I have no signal, however on the roof I can sometimes get a signal and make phone calls. I know there are repeaters, but does anyone know of a product that is tried and works well.

I want to transfer my pay as you talk phone from Vodafone to

Tech/Business: Say I were to conduct a feasibility study for social networking via mobile phones. I would like the service to enable people to define their relationships and be alerted when a specified contact is nearby (e.g., within 30m/100ft) - provided that contact has set themselves to be "findable" to that person. Is this already being done? If so, where can I find more information? If not, is this viable? Do we have the technology? How do I turn it into a profitable venture?

Fax Spam on my cell phone - does anybody else get this? Every once in a while, I get a call on my cell and when I pick up I hear a fax machine on the other end.
So I called Bell and they can't do anything about it unless they know the number. So they made me pick up the Call Display option. However, even when it isn't an unlisted number when I call it back Bell gives me a message saying "the number is not in service."
This is driving me nuts and I have a feeling I don't have any recourse.

As a follow-up to
this question, I'm looking for an online application that will let me set up a calendar and will email me daily reminders of the day's events. I need to do this online, because I move around a lot and am constantly using different PCs (so an Outlook/Eudora/Etc. solution won't work). I would like to be able to get a reminder the night before and one the morning-of. Google suggests there are several such services. Are there any really good ones? Bonus: Has anyone invented one that will phone you or leave your a text message?

ServerSideResearchFilter: A friend, who is a prominent Australian comedic voice talent, would like to dynamically stitch together disparate mp3s through a web interface and convert the resulting mp3 to suitable delivery for mobile phone voicemail recordings via MMS. While i can conceptualise the web interace and preview mechanism through flash, I am clueless to how the backend would work.
So, what specific technolgies should i enquire into to make this dream a reality (i am aware this kind of application development would be pricey), and also, are there any sites that you know of doing this at the moment?

I have a Motorola E365. One of the Java games it comes with is a card game called Big 2 Garden. The idea appears to be to get rid of your cards by playing them according to some rules. What the hell are the rules to this game? There's a review of the phone which includes a screenshot of this game
here.

This product is really cool, but why is
this thing so damned
expensive? It seems like a simple enough idea: a Cardbus to pci adapter allowing the mobile user to add more powerful equipment. PCI video cards beat the hell out of crappy 2x AGP 8mg mobile cards. PCI Audio cards blow the pants off built-in sound. This should cost $50 bucks, not nearly $1k. Am I missing something?

Does anyone have experience with those cell phones that have a certain number of minutes - you buy them without a separate account, and once you use up the minutes you're done. (I tried to search on this but the terms are all part of ordinary cell phone descriptions.)
