I'm from out of town (Chicago), but I met a girl here in KC the other day and we've decided to go out tomorrow evening. We're both artsy types with a fondness for adventure and off-the-beaten-path entertainment. I know I could easily defer to her for suggestions, but I'd like to have a few ideas to throw out. I'm up for anything really. It doesn't have to be a proper event or anything- someplace cool to wander around or explore is fine too. Just toss it all out there!! I have a potential job offer in St. Louis, but I know almost nothing about the place, and can't figure out whether I should even consider moving from Denver to there. So I thought I'd poll the highly refined cultural palates of MeFi readers to get some impressions of the place from people who've spent some time there.

Is it as sprawl-choked as Denver? What is the overall political mood? Can a guy who doesn't want to live in a McHouse on a cul-de-sac find a nice older house for a reasonable price? Is the weather tolerable for a pansy like me who's accustomed to the constant sunshine and very low humidity of Colorado?

Lewis and Clark traveled up the Missouri River from the Mississippi to the Rockies, over 2,000 miles. UPSTREAM. What the hell? If you have to explore the river, why not just get some horses and wagons and walk alongside it? Why kill yourself paddling against the current for 2,000 miles?
