Miscarriage resources?

Some days are ok, some days are just heartbreaking. Where can I look for some support and information after my first pregnancy ended in miscarriage? I'm not sure how to deal with this better. Personal stories are welcome. [more inside]

Should we be concerned that misoprostol ended miscarriage symptoms?

My wife was having a miscarriage and was given misoprostol to accelerate the process. She took 4 tablets of 200mg misoprostol under the tongue and 800mg ibuprofen right after that. The signs of miscarriage (considerable pain and bleeding) went away completely after she took the medication. Is this normal? [more inside]

Should I tell my boss about my miscarriage?

I was planning to tell my boss I was pregnant after the holidays. Unfortunately I underwent a delayed miscarriage at 13 weeks. I chose to go through the miscarriage naturally and it ended up happening over the Christmas holidays. I am physically almost completely better. I work for a startup and my boss is the CEO. Do I tell him what I have gone through when I return to work on Monday? [more inside]

Advice for broken-hearted 36 y.o. who cannot stay pregnant

My best friend just lost her third pregnancy. She and her husband have been trying to have a baby for 3 years. Her first and second losses were both in the first trimester, causes unknown. This most recent loss was especially horrible - they terminated after profound birth defects (as in: the baby could not survive outside the uterus) were detected on the 20-wk ultrasound. She's 36, and wonders if she'll ever be able to carry a healthy pregnancy to term. Should she give up trying to get pregnant and give birth? Anyone been down this road before and have good advice for her?

miscarriage choices

I went for an eight week ultrasound today and my doctor found that the embryo had stopped growing a week ago. She gave me three options: D&C, RU486 (the abortion pill), or to wait things out naturally. She was against the D&C because she was afraid at this early she might not get all the tissue and also the possibility of scarring. I trust her so I have ruled out the D&C. So that leaves the two other options. Even though it's supposedly very painful, I'm leaning toward the RU486. I just want this over. I'm just wondering if there's anything else I have not considered. Thankfully, I have nothing important going on at work (no meetings etc.) until March 25th. But I do need to go out of town for a meeting in Arizona on the 25th, so that's another reason for wanting to get things over with. Just wondering if there's anything else I should take into consideration when making this choice that I haven't thought of. Thank you.

No fetal heartbeat detected w/ultrasound; 6-8 weeks pregnant. What now

That's pretty much the situation. Depending on how the pregnancy date is calculated, my wife is 6-8 weeks pregnant. Otherwise, the midwife said the amniotic sac and embryo looked OK. We are going out of town for two weeks, so can't get a follow-up until then. Should be be worried? What should we expect? [more inside]

Do I need to tell the hiring manager that I'm NOT pregnant?

This fall, when I was unemployed and job hunting, I discovered I was pregnant, kind of like this person: http://ask.metafilter.com/207069/Should-I-reveal-my-pregnancy-in-job-interviews. I did not mention this during interviews, but when I got an offer, I brought it up with the hiring manager as part of my negotiation. I was very pleased that it did not seem like a liability, and he promised I'd be made eligible for their paid maternity leave even though I would have only been there about six months. He also said he'd leave it up to me to tell my boss and team with at least 4 months advance notice. [more inside]

Searching for a "letter" written by a father to his miscarried baby

Searching for a narrative I heard on the radio years ago (sometime between 1997 and 2007, I think). It was basically a father's letter to his unborn child, whom he lost in a miscarriage. At one point in the narration, I believe he refered to his baby - or simply the embryo's size - as a grain of rice. I think I may have heard it on NPR... I know this is terribly vague, but since my recent miscarriage, I have been desperate to hear/read it again. Does this ring a bell with anyone? If so, can someone tell me where I can access it - or at least offer me more specific search terms?

Need help coping with multiple miscarriage

Help me get over my miscarriages. I know logically that there's nothing I did that made them happen, but I can't seem to shake the feeling that a) I caused them through bad thoughts or actions, and b) that this negativity means that even if we do conceive again, I'm going to lose the next one as well because I can't make those thoughts go away. Is the baby alive?

A friend who is 8 weeks pregnant recently had an ultrasound. The computer said that she was only 6 weeks pregnant. She suspected that the baby might have died two weeks ago, which is why it has remained at a 6 week size. However, the levels of hormones in her blood continue to rise as if she were pregnant. Is more likely the the baby is just somehow undersized, or that the baby has died but the pregnancy has continued?

How likely is it that this person lied to me about a miscarriage?

A young woman of my acquaintance told me last week that she was pregnant. (No, I'm not the father). This morning she told me that she'd miscarried. She has lied to me in the past, and I'm a bit suspicious she might have made the whole thing up. There are a couple of minor-but-strange inconsistencies in her story, which I haven't pressed her on in the interest of being supportive. We communicate mostly by instant-messenger, so cues like tone of voice and body language aren't available.

When she told me she'd miscarried, she wrote "I was using the bathroom...and there was blood...and I saw it." ("It" presumably meaning the fetus). Is that plausible? Her last period was just before Christmas so she was at most six weeks pregnant at the time, with four being more likely. Would there be a visible fetus at that point, and would it actually be ejected from the body during a miscarriage? I don't intend to castigate her, especially if there's even a remote chance that there's truth to this. I'll probably never even mention that I know she lied. I would just like to know.
