Looking for recommendations for a good, reasonably priced plumber and electrician in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area. [more inside]
My boyfriend and I are travel novices, so we need advice about whether this is an OK idea or a stupid plan. (Southwest Airlines/air travel edition.) [more inside]
Next Thursday I have a 515a flight (on American née US Air, so Terminal 1 is my point of departure) out of MSP. Assuming I'll go through security at around 400-415, it seems silly to stay at a hotel the night before. The airport is open 24 hours. What I'm curious about is if I can I go through security around midnight and try to catch a few ZZZs in the terminal? If not, can I sleep safely outside of security, or will local law enforcement tell me to move along? [more inside]
I got lucky on my very first time using a camera, and I'm afraid to try again, 'cause I don't think I can come close to getting anything nearly as good. [more inside]
I’ve decided to finally move out of Madison, WI, for many reasons. I have traction now that my landlord won’t be renewing my lease, which expires in August, due to my lack of housekeeping. I’m hoping to move to Portland, OR, with Minneapolis in second. I’m aware that I’m not a desirable tenant at all for a number of reasons, and I’m trying to start strategizing now how to get an apartment of my own. More inside. [more inside]
Hi, my wife is looking to buy a new bike and I was wondering if anyone could recommend a particular store in Minneapolis or its environs. Neither of us knows all that much about bikes and the last time she bought one it wasn't a great experience (the clerk sold her a bike that really wasn't a good fit for her needs and the people at that shop are snotty.)
SO and I will be in Minneapolis for a bunch of days around Memorial Day. I used to be a frequent visitor, but haven't been back in a few years now. What are things we should do? [more inside]
I'm not sure which I would rather as far as living situations, so I would like to gather opinions on it. [more inside]
What do you like about living in the Twin Cities? What advice would you give to someone who might be relocating there, particularly about the weather? [more inside]
Does anyone have tips on finding apartments beyond Padmapper? When is a good time to actually look/sign leases for apartments for next August? Apartments seem to go extremely fast here and I'm afraid I'm missing out on something by not signing a lease right now. Also, are there any neighborhoods you would recommend for a graduate student at the U? [more inside]
I'm in this class with some people. For unrelated reasons - but the idea of a tattoo field trip is funny! - we would like to go as a small group to get some tattoo touch-up work and some simple piercings. No one has had work done in the Twin Cities recently and we're not sure where to go. [more inside]
TaskRabbit isn't available in Minneapolis. I need somebody to pick up some groceries, maybe a balloon, some items from the pharmacy, etc. and deliver to the apartment of a sick person today. Are there any similar services available, that could deliver today?
As parents of four year olds we don't get out much, and we're out of touch with the Twin Cities dining scene. Here's what we like; hoping someone has an inspired suggestion... [more inside]
What other places could I live? Outside NYC/lower cost of living filter. [more inside]
Is it going to be possible to see the northern lights in Minneapolis tonight? Will it be similar to a meteor shower, where one needs to get pretty far from the glow of the city lights to enjoy the show? Any tips/suggestions for how to make the best of it, or suggestions of particularly good spots from which to see it?
After watching our house not sell for 3 months (with one offer that would require us to bring 40k to the table!), we think it might be time for more creative solutions. Tell me about Strategic Defaults in Minnesota. [more inside]
We're driving this route with our two kids and are looking for something better than the fly-ridden service centers and truckstops. [more inside]
My boyfriend and I are considering moving to the Twin Cities. [more inside]
My wife loves those thin onion rings and has a birthday coming up. She'd like to celebrate at at some place that has great skinny rings. Can you recommend any restaurants with tasty onion rings in Minneapolis, St. Paul, or any of the Twin Cities suburbs? I can't recall what the onion rings are like at different restaurants and her examples of good rings are from other cities.
For the first time ever, my partner and I will be taking a vacation together, and we're looking at either Omaha or Minneapolis. Looking for things we should see-- all suggestions welcome! [more inside]

I'd like to take my mother-in-law on a drive Christmas Eve to look at Christmas lights. What neighborhood should we go to in the Hopkins/St. Louis Park/Minnetonka/Edina area near the Twin Cities? [more inside]
So my fiance is very smart, hardworking, great with people, courteous, etc and so forth. He's currently working as a lead teller at a large banking corporation. He's been there for a while, and the management staff over him have all rotated and gone from being pretty good managers to people that make working there frankly awful for him. He of course wants to leave, but both of our experience has been that looking at places that post lots of classifieds from different sources is that you may as well mail your application to the void. SO! What are your recommendations for specific employers whose job postings we should keep an eye on? [more inside]
I'm getting estimates for repairs to a retaining wall in south Minneapolis; the web's awash in listings, but I'm hoping that some MeFites have worked with and had good experiences with some contractors they could recommend. The wall in question is about 10 feet high and holding up my neighbor's yard, so this is more of a structural thing than a cosmetic thing.
Who is the absolute best heating contractor in the Twin Cities? [more inside]
I want to go backpacking in Minnesota or western Wisconsin this weekend. Where should I go? [more inside]
I can't, for the life of me, remember the name of a peculiar but compelling band that would play at the Bryant-Lake Bowl and other places in Uptown Minneapolis around 1995-1997, and it's driving me batty. [more inside]

Can you recommend a bar in Downtown Minneapolis? [more inside]
I'll be staying in the UMN area for two weeks in August doing research, sans car and sans company. I'd love recommendations for good places to visit alone, either in the area or easy to get to on public transit. I am somewhat anxious/unadventurous, but want to make the most of my visit. [more inside]
Asking for friends: They have a 2-year old and are looking for various toddler activities around the Twin Cities (accessible by public transit a plus, but farther away may be worthwhile for something really awesome), especially both downtowns, Roseville......... Swap groups (clothes, toys), sports/physical classes, play groups, a swimming pool with shallow toddler area, music and art classes, dance (esp. tap dance, including shows if young kids can't participate), etc. TIA.
My neighbor and I share a retaining wall which is going to need some repairs soon. It's become abundantly clear to me that I need to sit down with a lawyer, a bunch of documentation, and a list of questions just so that I know where things actually stand here in terms of obligations and what this shared ownership actually means as a practical matter. So, as far as AskMe goes, I'm hoping to get recommendations for lawyers in Minneapolis that people have worked with on property line issues like this.
Where's the best place to have a (vegetarian/vegan - friendly) brunch before an early afternoon Twins game?
Just moved to Minneapolis and would like to continue my martial arts training. I was doing shotokan karate for about three years and would like to pick up where I left off, but I'm open to other forms if there is a particularly good school you'd recommend. Any suggestions of places to look into or where I can find out more about my options? [more inside]
Hi, MeFites of Minneapolis! My wife and I will be visiting your city for a weekend later this month. Based on our own picky likes and dislikes, do you have any recommendations for what we might like to see and do? [more inside]
So my BFF and I have five days in Minneapolis, two of which we're spending at an educational conference (Yay FlipCon13!) in Stillwater. Hope us eat well AND have fun in Minnesota! [more inside]
I am going to be in Minneapolis for a conference this August and am looking for a place to stay. I usually enjoy staying in smaller, affordable hotels, BnB's or hostels. It would be great if the Convention Center was easy to reach, either on food or by public transport. I will be traveling alone and won't know anyone at the conference. So it's important to me to find a nice place to stay where I feel safe and can relax after a long day. Do you have suggestions?
I'm meeting a friend in Minneapolis to help celebrate his birthday. Neither of us are familiar with the area. Help me find some places that he would he like. [more inside]

Looking to clean up my look in the Twin Cities. Will you fellow MSPers give recommendations for your favorite beauty spots? South Minneapolis is closest, but I'll take anywhere. [more inside]
I recently got a job that pays well with Medtronic (contract first, good signs for the future). I'll be paid handsomely and I need to start work on April 1st 2013 (or sooner). I have an apartment in Kalamazoo, MI until 5/01/2013. This is a 10 hour drive move, I have slightly less than 2.5 weeks to make it happen. What's the recommended way to do this, some combination of measuring, U-haul, gas cost, driving out there to check places out, figuring what to take, getting rid of the other stuff.... All that. I'm thinking Pods.com (based on Ask.Mefi post searches, along with friends and family, as of now). Input? [more inside]
