My seven year old has saved an amazing $200. He'd like to get his own Android tablet that can handle Minecraft PE. Can this be done? Currently he uses my wife's iPad 2. But the lag is driving him nuts. Would a tablet in his price range be any better?
I'd like to watch some Minecraft PE (not regular Minecraft) let's play videos with decent production values that aren't narrated by 12 yearolds and/or super silly. Are there any? [more inside]
I'm stuck in a hole in Minecraft. Is there a way out of this mess? [more inside]
Please help me understand minecraft pocket edition. My son is 7 1/2 years and initially I was fine with him playing minecraft. He was building stuff, planted carrots and had dogs, and was flying around. But suddenly he is using weapons. I put an immediate stop to it by banning minecraft. But I would like to find out if there is a way to get rid of the weapons and return to the childfriendly version as he really enjoyed it. [more inside]
I want to gift a Raspberry Pi to my 10 year old nephew- he loves computers and Minecraft, and I think it would be a great way for him to learn more and have fun, rather than just use his iPad and apps. BUT THERE'S SO MANY OPTIONS TO CONSIDER. [more inside]
My son is playing Exploration on the iPad (a sandbox game, like a basic minecraft clone where you just build things) and while he really enjoys it, it doesn't seem capable of saving his creations. Is there another recommended game that allows saving? [more inside]
My son is 12, and starting to participate in online communities. Right now, the only community he's interacting with is 4 friends of his from school; they play Minecraft. But I suspect this will soon change. [more inside]

My 8-year-old son is obsessed with Minecraft, and has announced that he would like to create video games when he grows up. My own IT skills topped out around 1982 when I learned to write programs in Basic that printed my name in an endless goto loop. What technologies/languages/apps can I introduce him to in order to leverage his enthusiasm and channel it to something that teaches him age-appropriate programming skills? Assume second-grade math and logic skills and no programming background whatsoever.
A simple question about Minecraft that I'm finding no firm answer for online. With the default settings and without mods, how frequently do mushroom islands come up? [more inside]
A friend of mine is looking to use Minecraft PE with a group of 20 kids who will be playing on iPads. They're looking for an opinion on what the best way to host a server will be. They want a persistent server that will be available around the clock, they will not be playing with mods, and they'd like it to be as maintenance free as possible. What are good, reliable, and scam free hosting solutions for mobile Minecraft? [more inside]

I'm amazed that a YouTube star who started filming videos about hair and makeup in her bedroom has just released the fastest selling debut novel of all time. I'm also amazed that watching toy reviews or other people playing video games are such a big deal. So what other YouTube big YouTube trends will similarly blow my mind? [more inside]
Myboy’s twin passions are Minecraft and The Amazing World of Gumball. We are throwing him a GumCraft/MineBall 9th birthday party and would love suggestions on decorations, food/treats, beverages, music, party favors, and activities. Either Minecraft or Gumball suggestions would be great, but suggestions that meld the two themes together would simply rock the house. [more inside]

My 5 year old son /loves/ playing Minecraft on my grandmother's iPad when she visits. I have a chromebook that I can put linux on. What is the best way to transition him from a touchscreen interface to keyboard+mouse (or bluetooth controller?)? What other differences are there between the touchscreen & computer versions, it has been at least 5 years since I've played Minecraft on my computer, and never on the iPad.

I'm considering purchasing Minecraft Realms for my sons and their friends, but I have a few reservations. Looking for tales from early adopters. [more inside]
I find a good Let's Play to be soothing and engaging. I like Minecraft best, but am willing to consider other games that have a similar vibe. I am interested in finding good videos that are relatively mature and fun. I would also consider good tutorial series. Currently I have been watching stuff put out by Paul Soares Jr, and I like it. I have not enjoyed anything by stampylongnose because it is too frantic and clownish. I have not found my way into Far Lands or Bust, but am willing to give it a try. Basically I like watching someone go about their business and talk about whatever while they do it. Do you have recommendations? Can you say what you like about your recommended titles?
For the love of god, how do you turn off the April Fool's prank? Not getting any help from the forums or the mods at mojang.com.
Hi, noob here. How do you pillar jump in minecraft pocket edition for iOS? I've seen lots of videos of people zipping up and zipping down, but I can't figure out yo to do it myself.
I'm reformatting a cheap 3yo Asus laptop as a dedicated low-end games (read: Minecraft) machine for my kids. What's the best flavour/distro of Linux I can install for this?
I'm looking for people who are regularly posting interesting/unusual content about Minecraft. Examples would be unusual Let's Play type series like the Far Lands or Bust series that recently got written up in the New Yorker. Written content or public servers where more interesting than usual activities are going on also work. [more inside]

We have a Minecraft subscription. My son wants to upgrade to 1.6.4. I downloaded the "new launcher" and pressed "play demo" to install 1.6.4 on our machine. However, it's just a demo. If we already have a Minecraft subscription, do we have to pay an extra $20 or whatever to upgrade? Minecraft 1.7 is supposed to come out soon, so would I have to pay again to upgrade again? But the fundamental question is, do I have to purchase 1.6.4 if I already have a Minecraft subscription?
So the kids want to go as Minecraft characters on Halloween. They've ordered masks so that they can go as Steve, Enderman, and Creeper. (Don't ask me, I don't know either.) If they were going as comic-book characters, I would have some idea what I could dress up as in order to be consistent with them. With respect to the Minecraft universe, I have no idea. Any idea what other costumes would be consistent for me to wear that fit inside the Minecraft context?
I want to buy a computer, for homework and minecraft, for less than £300 in the UK. Where can I find one? [more inside]
I'm thinking about giving my 2009 MacBookPro to my 10 year old for his birthday. The main thing he does on the computer is play Minecraft. Google is being unhelpful, as are the various Minecraft discussion forums I've looked through. So I thought I'd turn to AskMe. [more inside]
I have an interest in purchasing a very large number (500+) of Minecraft licenses for public libraries. I know that bulk purchases of Minecraft Edu are discounted, but we'd much rather use regular Minecraft. I can't find contact information for anyone at Mojang to talk with about this. [more inside]
My kid wants me to install a bunch of mods to minecraft, I'm confused about the process. Installing mods seems much different then say on Steam games where its integrated into the application. I'm uncomfortable just following sketchy links on message boards to download and install jars/executables, but thats the process as I've seen it described. Is there a more obvious way to do this? [more inside]
Mr. BlahLaLa and I are considering buying Kid BlahLaLa a laptop for his 10th birthday. (We want him to be able to play Minecraft and browse the internet.) We're a Mac family but I'm pretty sure this computer will have to be non-Mac because they're so much cheaper, which in turn opens up a whole world of internet security questions that I usually don't think about on my mac. Plus the whole idea of "Now I'm giving my kid a computer, what do I need to think about?" type of stuff. [more inside]
I work at a middle school and our after school program wants to set up a Minecraft club. We want a group of about 15 people and I want to find the cheapest and simplest way to do this. I was looking at MinecraftEdu as an option but I wanted to ask y'all if you knew of a better/cheaper way to do things.
