So, the shower grout is getting very mildewy despite my best attempts to clean, scrub, brush, etc. The bathroom is not ventilated particularly well, which only compounds the problem. I've seen these amazing "Drill Brushes, advertising effortless, "manly" cleaning. Do they actually work? Will it clean the grout without damaging the tiles? Has anyone tried one?

We bought a house a month ago and moved in immediately. Since moving in we have found a couple (some significant) moisture-related issues. We have fixed most of the issues, but now all of our belongings smell of mildew/mold. What I need now is a) reassurance that everything will one day be okay and b) some guidance on practical steps to get from here to okay. [more inside]
I recently discovered mold in my apartment. It's a new building (a backyard cottage) and very airtight, and recent cool/rainy weather caused excessive condensation on windows...which led to black mold on windowsills. I'm about to move out, for other reasons. But I'm trying to get the mold out of one of the windowsills before I go. A few more details inside. [more inside]
I need to buy a pressure washer to clean my concrete driveway, which is somewhat blackened with mildew. I don't want to break the bank, but I'm having trouble figuring out what the minimum PSI I can use is. Does anyone have personal experience in this? [more inside]
We are renters with a nice but somewhat slow-to-act landlord. We have a 700 sqft apartment that has one bathroom with one window but no exhaust fan. Even though we live in SoCal (dry and warm all year) and open the window and door after showering, we still get grayish-black mold growing on the ceilings and grout, and sometimes in the garbage can. We get rid of it with bleach but it always comes back. Will installing a window fan that exhausts air out (either twin or single) help this at all? Or is that a waste of money?
Is there a way for a homeowner to monitor mildew, mold and/or mycotoxin levels in a room?
I need to clean a bunch of white curtains with black mildew spots. They all have plastic rings sewed on for hanging and no tags to show what material they're made from, but they look like a cotton blend. I don't have a washing machine (I bring clothes to a laundrette) and have serious space limitations (no room to air dry, unless *absolutely* necessary). What is the best approach to cleaning these things? Will a dryer melt the plastic rings? Will a hot wash damage the curtains? Is dry cleaning an option? Thanks!

SF renter here. The bathroom in my apartment has a window but no fan. The window opens onto an outdoor space that gets little breeze. Recently in the humid weather, my shower has began to smell like mildew even though I've scrubbed it down. This SFGate article says SF bathrooms with showers or tubs are required to have a mechanical fan. Is this only for newly-built houses or does this apply to all homes? [more inside]
I have blue stains on my new pillowcases, and I'm scared it could be mildew. But I don't understand how it could have got there so fast, and I don't know what to do now. Can anyone confirm what it is, and give me ideas for what to try next? [more inside]
Our small main floor 2-piece bathroom has had a musty smell for the last couple of months. We can't seem to identify the source and aside from the smell there is no sign that anything is wrong. We had a plumber in and he spotted a very small amount of (orangy coloured) mould inside the toilet tank, but even after cleaning that up with MoldEx the smell has not abated. What could it be? [more inside]
Our firesafe and everything in it smells like mildew. I'm not exactly sure why, I'm not seeing visible signs of mold. But I know a few older documents went in there smelling musty. It's gross, and many of the documents are important stuff that would be difficult/expensive and in some cases impossible to replace. So what can I do? [more inside]

You guys are my last hope: is there anything I can do to remove the mildew smell from my Aeropress plunger? It turns out I accidentally put the Aeropress away without removing the used coffee "puck" first — and it stayed that way for weeks. Of course, the rubber end of the plunger has a mildew smell, which seems invincible. We removed the rubber bit and I've tried covering it with baking soda, soaking it in vinegar, soaking it in vinegar and soda, soaking in dilute bleach, and then dilute peroxide. THEN... my husband sanded down the rubber end a bit, and I tried it all over again, to no avail. [more inside]
