I want to use my unfinished basement as a workout space and have laid down some interlocking foam tiles on the bare concrete floor. However, the floor under the tiles has started showing mildew after a few weeks in place. How can I set up a comfortable workout space in a typically humid but not wet basement without having to lift the tiles every couple of months to scrub out the mildew?

There is a mold or mildew problem under the kitchen sink in my new apartment. My allergies are a curse that cause me to detect smells that normal people can't, and my landlord can't smell it and thinks I might be crazy.

You guys are my last hope: is there anything I can do to remove the mildew smell from my Aeropress plunger? It turns out I accidentally put the Aeropress away without removing the used coffee "puck" first — and it stayed that way for weeks. Of course, the rubber end of the plunger has a mildew smell, which seems invincible. We removed the rubber bit and I've tried covering it with baking soda, soaking it in vinegar, soaking it in vinegar and soda, soaking in dilute bleach, and then dilute peroxide. THEN... my husband sanded down the rubber end a bit, and I tried it all over again, to no avail.

After working in the rain for 3 days straight and never having enough time to dry all the way out during those 3 days, one of my work boots smells punguntly of mildew. There's no footy smell, only mildew. Is there any way to get rid of it and save the boot? I imagine the mildew isn't doing any favours for the binding or the fabrics either.

Our kitchen sponge starts to smell like mildew after less than a week of normal use. We use a standard "scrubby" sponge that has an abrasive side and an absorbent sponge side. Has anybody else experienced this problem, and if so, what did you do about it, or do you have any general advice about keeping sponges from mildewing quickly?

I have a ceramic water crock and have recently noted an odd taste in the water that it dispenses. I've tried pouring several kettles of boiling water through it, and running the water through the spout, with no results.
I'm wondering if anyone has suggestions for cleaning out the crock, getting rid of the strange mildew-ey taste..?
