Menstrual Migraine Filter

I've had brain surgery that involved cutting out a quarter-size hole in my skull and peeling back the dura-matter and layers of other tissues, drilling through bones connected to my ear, then putting everything back with a titanium plate. The surgeon forgot to order pain meds. and I was in misery for two hours before the first shot. This was NOTHING compared to the migraine I barely endured two days ago. Had we a gun in the house I would most certainly not be here. [more inside]

Is biofeedback a joke?

My 2 1/2 year old gets migraines. The only cause we can discern is chocolate but have tried other elimination diets to no avail. Someone suggested biofeedback (a machine that can tell you what your body needs to heal) - and this will help determine the cause(s). I am very skeptical. Would you give it a try? The test is ~$150.

Dots in my vision, dots on my arm, and uh, hmm, what's the word?

Since I last posted I've been feeling much better, but now have very new and strange symptoms. I've been seeing flashes in my vision, felt like I was misreading text or having difficulty expressing myself verbally (words came a bit more slowly than usual), and went to the ER when I saw (and a friend confirmed) my pupils were unevenly dilated. I've also had a recurring, painless rash of tiny red dots that is only ever present on my right hand, and comes and goes rather quickly. All symptoms started two or three weeks ago. I can't see a doctor for a week or two, but when I can, what kind should I see and what should I ask about? [more inside]

And so I found myself asking this for some sort of reassurance, which question would be fielded by AskMefi's language nerds with bewildering rapidity

In David Foster Wallace's A Supposedly Fun Thing I'll Never Do Again he uses the word "which" in a way that I found unusual - a usage that is described under heading three here. I think I'm fairly well read, but I can't remember ever having seen this before. I've been having (what I think are) migraines lately and I'm curious if I'm becoming linguistically befuddled, or if this is just an obscure or archaic usage. Examples after the jump. [more inside]

Side-effect Russian roulette?

I've just been prescribed propranolol, a beta-blocker, as prophylaxis against migraines, which I've been getting every 1-2 weeks and are pretty bad. But I'm scared as hell that the side effects sometimes include clinical depression. I'm already not in the best of places, emotionally speaking, and have been in therapy for a year and a half, but I don't think I've ever been clinically depressed. Should I fill the prescription?
